Taper questions

Next week I go see my dr and talk to him about coming off my pain meds. I have a prescription but I abuse it and then have to buy them off the street until my next refill. Anyways I have some questions about tapering. How does it work? Will it be as bad as going cold turkey? Will I still get withdrawal symptoms? I do plan on putting a trusted friend in charge of my pills so that I do not take more. I am also looking into local NA meetings. Anyone's experience would be appreciated.

I take 15 - 20 10mg norcos a day and when those run out I will take whatever I can buy. 35mg Roxie's or 80mg ops. At my biggest binges I was taking 5 or 6 80mg ops. Lately it hasn't been that much. I have been taking some sort of narcotic for about a year.

What were you taking? How many a day and for how long - months, years?
