Thank you for helping me get my life back

Around the 11th April I posted and I was is a real mess. I posted and asked if OxyContin could cause depression. I had been on OxyContin for five and a half years and I was very depressed. The members on this forum told me that it does cause severe depression and OxyContin can stop Depression meds from working. I was up to 120mg of OxyContin for pain management.

I decided to come off OxyContin because after three years of horrible depression, I was in danger of harming myself. I started to drop down the mg of Oxy each day and then I went into withdrawals. Within a few minutes of posting about this, the members jumped in and warned that I was doing too fast and to see my doctor. Thanks guys.

The outcome is, I'm down to one 5mg of Oxy a day now and my Depression meds are working extremely well.  It's taken four months to get to this stage and although it's been gruel at times, the results are fantastic.  My doctor told me yesterday that there have been studies done that show that in some people, the higher the doses of Oxy, the more pain the person feels. It actually works in reverse. All I know is my pain levels have dropped dramatically in the last month. The way things are going now  I don't think I will need the 5mg of Oxy much longer.

I'm writing this to hoping help anyone who is trying to get off Oxy, it's not easy but take it day by day. See your doctor and get a script every two weeks for a lower dose. This is what I did and it worked. Good luck and don't give up trying

Thanks so much for your post! I am experiencing something similar. Have been on pain meds for 7 yrs, oxy for the last 3. Last year I got so depressed I could not get out of bed for days. I was suicidal, my whole personality changed. I am only now coming out of it. I want to get off of these oxy's, I am taking ~ 60mg a day. But I have a massive stash (previous dr overprescribed)  and dont know if I can bring myself to flush them. Your story is very encouraging. thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to post. Believe me when I say that without this forum, I wouldn't be where I am now. Perhaps I should stick around, I might be able to support other people.

wow, how wonderful and thanks for posting this!!!  It is true about the depression.....and the pain levels.  It is called pain hyperalgesia and has been mentioned here a few times.  It is good information. Glad you went to your doctor....we tend to be afraid to tell them, but in the end it can be a good call...with the exception of a few clueless doctors who just walk away.

You did it the right way and glad we gave you advice that helped you get there!!!  Congrats on heading your problem head on!!!!!!!
