The Practical use, without the emotional shame

Hello All,I am a 48,so to be May22 49yrs old male who has basically used pain-meds in differing strengths since may09th,1990. That day has major significance in my physical and emotional health and welfare since. On may 09th 1990,i was duly imployed as a tractot Trailor Driver in the Southern Ontario Toronto part of Canada. For our American friends its 100 miles from Buffalo,os Double that  in regared to Windsor/Detroit area.I went through 2 lower-back serguries and used mostly percocets for my career.I used the Oxycontins for 2-3 months .The only thing i say about them is they wear -off faster. The percocets say at 3-pills would last for hours,me and my whoever  would ,do whatever and have one hell opf a good time. I mean years, theses mothers have one hell of a long holding pattern.I tried the silly oxys just because ,im nosy and have to experience all there is in the world of pills that Now aday im waiting for the results of a MRI On my L_HIP as I have Osteoarthritis, and will no the bottom line when I post tomarrow afternoon.AS for the pain,     im on 70mgs a-day of Methadone,I know its Very controvercial, especially on a REcocery forum and as for getting-off,more power to anyone moving in that direction,i only want equal acknowledgement to people that use narcotics  in a controled manner,as if i sdont,im in one hell of a uncomfortable life. I let you guys know the results of tomarrows MRI  cheers john

I'm confused. Are you posting because you feel you have an addiction problem and want to get clean?

Hope your MRI comes out ok, Johnny. Best of luck to you.
If and when the time comes and you decide to give the Suboxone a try, let me know. Happy to answer any questions you may have.  Good luck and hope they can do something to get you out of pain.

I Can identify, ive seen people after they take their drinks sittin in the coffee shoppe,on the NOD (BIG-TIME) not as much anymore as like everything else A Drivers license is a Privelage, not a right. People are regularly repoted to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications if their urine -test keeps coming up with Cocaine, benodiazepanes, and if an individual cant stay within the guigelines, especially the iLLisit stuff the coke ,weed ,speed etc.The person better start getting use to the BUS ROUTE,as being on that methadone gives the gouverment the right to snoop. After the Surgery i may taper down and switch to the Suboxone,as its just been released in Nov.2007.Thank for your comment

We are about the same age and it was in '92 that my addiction really started with a car accident.  I was big on the percs too, and Darvocets but I too also had to try oxy's, dilaudids, and morphine.  Anyway thank you for telling your story, I can relate to a lot of it.

Its hard enough trying to go on with your life and build your credibility without having to fight for your right to do it however you have to.  For you right now that means methadone, and controversial or not if it's working and you are working a program don't worry about what anyone else says or thinks.

I look forward to hearing how your MRI went.  Good luck.  How long for the results?

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lisa

I hope they can fix your hip.  I can relate to the horrible pain.  I have hip problems also and can't sleep at night because of the horrible burning in my hips.  One good thing for you is Canada has free health insurance. I so wish we did, so they could relieve this pain.  Keep us posted.

There's an AT watchdog site for methadone rights folks if your interested in keeping up with the political side of this. As a truck driver, you may want to check it out. A recent court case here in America found a Methadone Clinic Libel for damages due to an accident involving the death of a  motorist leaving her clinic and "falling asleep" at the wheel. The ramifications are disturbing.
I'm not sure how it is in Canada, but here it's a daily fight for folks trying to keep there rights who are permanently disabled and take these meds regularly.

Good luck with the mri. :)
