I'm sorry that she feels her choice is not being respected. It is her choice so it most definitely should be respected!
People come to a forum for advice. All anyone can do is read through all the advice and use what they feel is best for them. She shouldn't feel disrespected just because someone told her to go cold turkey because it worked for them. I bet over 90% of addicts aren't able to taper but that still leaves quite a few that are able to. Just because ct worked for one doesn't mean it's the best choice for all.
My opinion for tapering is to give it a try but the second you veer off that taper, flush them and go ct. It's all too easy to talk ourselves into taking one extra for today because we have this or that going on. It normally ends up being an everyday thing though. But, if you are able to stick to that taper then I feel that is the way to go. I've tapered in the past and got through with little to no withdrawal. It takes so much discipline which is normally something us addicts don't have. Later on down the road I wasn't able to taper and had to bite the bullet. We have to remember that everyone is at different stages of addiction and they might not be in so deep to where they aren't able to make a taper work.
We are all after the same goal and that's what's important. As long as we all reach that goal who cares which route somebody takes.
Please tell your friend to take what advice she needs and leave the rest. On an open forum there's always going to be things that tick us off and leave us feeling disrespected. You just have to read over everything, evaluate the responses and use what's best for you. Leave what you think is negative and only worry about the wealth of support that is here. No matter what thread somebody reads, there's always going to be some advice that someone else doesn't agree with. All that matters is she accomplishes the goals she is after and we will all be here to help her by offering advice that worked for us. But, in the end it is her choice and everyone should respect that. If her her taper is working and she's sticking to it then that's all that really matters right now.

Hi angel how are you doing? good I hope
Nobody should feel.like we disrespect one another. All we have is words on a sscreen so you can't hear the tone or emotions behind the post. Everyone that finds their way here needs help and support. And that's what this place is. Its a safe place to let off steam vent. Encourage and support.
How ever you choose to.stop. Its not easy. But with hard work and dedication it can be and will be done.
We tend to.forget Alot of us got addiction because of pain issues. And Alot of us took the meds for relief. Its plain scarey thinking if the pain will return and is it going to be worse? Or how to live with out our habit ? Humans are creatures of habits. And its hard when you hurt emotionally or physically or both not to.reach and sooth the pain. Its a whole circle of habits and behavior that is in play. I support anyone who.wants to better themselves.
