Trying to stop norcor

I have been taking Norcor 10/325 once a day for a little over a year. There may have been a few days that I didn't take them because I knew I wouldn't get the high. I want to stop and have picked today to do it. I did stop taking them for about 2 weeks but I also had the flue so I don't think it counts. How long do you think it will take to get it out of my system and how bad will the withdrawal be? I have Xanax if needed and muscle relaxers.

Good morning Aiden.. so you feel you turn to the pills to relive stress as a person would a drink ? I ask this question for numbing yourself for a emotional problem is one thing Taking 1/2 pill for pain is another.. It is difficult for you have pain and you do not abuse. Have you spoken with your Dr. about your fears ? Have you thought of what you are going to do to deal with your pain once this is behind you ? Ok now that I have my questions behind me Please do not feel bad. many have succumbed to the call of their drug. I can say that when we quit our drug our pain escalates for awhile it is called rebound pain. It is your brains way of getting you to take more drugs, It likes the opiates and will send signals to your body to produce more pain.. to get you to take more.. this will calm down as your brain heals.. Do not be hard on yourself ok and I sure can appreciate the personal inventory you are putting yourself thru.. Being a caregiver is exhausting I know.. Make sure you are taking time for yourself ok for a walk a lil fresh air.. lesa

I guess I should say too that when I'm taking the pills, I'm taking them even tho I know I'm not going to get a high from them. I know that I have to go for 4 or 5 days without taking them to start getting a high. Yes there are days that I've taken them hoping to get the high. Those are days my husband has had a very bad night. I am caregiver for him. He had back surgery a year ago and still can't be left alone for long periods of time. I tell myself that God had a reason for me getting laid off 6 months before his surgery. He has needed me here.

Well I didn't make it. The pain and burning in my neck got to me. about 6 last night. I had tried everything - heat, ice, meds, rubs, showers. I knew it was going to be bad because of the way it started. I only took half a pill and that stopped the pain. I am feeling better this morning - the neck isn't hurting when I got up so it should be a good day. Lesa I guess you are right - it's not that I'm addicted - I depend on the pills for the pain. Unfortunately I have a low pain threshold and always have. My dentist has to sedate me to fill a tooth! The half a pill is the last I had. I know I can get more but I'm not going to. Hopefully the burning will stay to a low simmer. I have an appointment with my neuro doctor next week. I wish she would send me to pain management for the injections they use.

Anyway I'm back to square one. When I started taking the norcor it was to help with the pain because I had run out of Vicodin that my dr had prescribed. And I only took them when I needed them. it's only been the past 6 months or so that I started taking them whenever anything started hurting.

I'm not discouraged tho. I made it over 24 hours without taking one. I know I can do this.

HZ0287 hope you are doing better than I did  Hang in there!

Hey aiden, thanks for the support. I was taking between 11-15 Vicodin a day for a little over a year. At first I had a legitimate medical use for them and then I started to lie to myself and the doctors. I can easily go to the doctor and get some if I choose, but my life is horrible while I'm taking them. It's so hard to let go of them because to me they were my way out of reality. I really hope the best for you. I think it's more mental then physical in your case because thankfully your not taking more then one...I was taking 11-15 a day! Try substituting the Vicodin for regular old tyninol, it's been working for me, because supposedly we are addicted to the act of getting high as much as we are with the stuff already in us.

Yes I was very fortunate that I could be honest with my hubby. He had known I was a heroin addict in my past but had no clue about addiction. neither did I. It sounds like you are more dependent then addicted as you have control over your meds ? I hope this is the case for you will have a easier time of it. If not then I would suggest getting rid of the pills. as long as they are there they will call your name.. Maybe you can educate your husband as you learn of the power of opiates so you both can be on the same page. Support is key. Ice may help also our heat I have stenosis of the neck so I know it can be painful..

Thanks lesa - that's encouraging to know. What makes it bad I was taking the pills for a bulging disk in my neck. It's hurting like heck right now and it would be so easy to get a pill. I just took some Aleve and going to see if that helps. Glad you had the support of your hubby to help you. Mine keeps reminding me that they are very addictive and I should be careful. I think he suspects I'm addicted but is not saying anything.

Good luck HZ0287.  I was just taking 1 10/325 pill a day. For the past few days I have only been taking 5 mg by cutting it in half - taking half early and then the other one about 4 hours later. I took a whole pill early yesterday morning and then half a one about 3 pm yesterday afternoon so it's been about 20 hours. I have a headache and have hit my morning low which is when I would generally take my last half for the day. Feeling a little shaky.

HZ0287 how much Vicodin were you taking?

Hey there I'm new to this too, I just started last night getting off Vicodin. Opiates stay in your system for about one and a half to three days max depending on how much is concentrated in your system. 99% of the time for most people it is no longer in your system for longer then 2 days. The problem with withdrawals isn't the fact that its in your system, it's the fact that your body is dependent on it and will start craving it once the levels in your body start to drop.

Thanks for your answers. I was thinking the wd wouldn't be horrendous because of the small amount I was taking but I wasn't sure. I have gone 3 or 4 days without taking any but have been pretty steady with taking it the last 4 weeks. I had a norovirus the end of January and took nothing for 7 to 10 days. I looked at Thomas's recipe but I am on wellbutron.

If it's just headache and generally not feeling good, I think I can handle it. I normally take my pill between 7 and 8 in the morning. Haven't taken one today and do have a headache and a little tingling in my whole body. How long does it take for norcor to get out of your system? How long will it take for the wd effects to start?

hi and welcome to the forum!  everyone is diff with the WDs....just plan on feeling like you have a bad flu for a few days.....if you can be off work and stay home for couple days, that would help....if not, you can do it anyway....

check out the Thomas recipe on this page at the bottom.....it's got some great stuff in it....make sure you have gatorade...imodium....maybe some ensure or boost if you can't eat....most of all hydrate....stock up with light foods...crackers and soups....ibuprofen or tylenol....bananas....

just post for support when you have a specific symptom that you need help with....we can help you thru it....just keep telling yourself...this is a good thing!

If you are healthy and not on any other medications, it is very doable...just very uncomfy for a few days.  Since you were only taking one pill a day??  the WDs might not be horrible for you.  Keep posting for support!
