I've been on anywhere from 30-80 mg of oxycodone for the last 4 years. I'm down to 5 pills and I'm wondering how the hell to taper and what should I expect? Is it dangerous for me to cold turkey it?? What will help? Please help me. This *****

I was yawning, sneezing, stomach probs, very rapid heartbeat, anxiety, depression, sweats, cold sweats, freezing cold, shivers, runny nose, watery eyes, and body aches and pains. Every little pain I had before was magnified for about two days. What you're describing is normal and expected. Thankfully it will be over soon!!
Best of luck, you can do this!!!

So far I can't stop yawning, have the runs, but what concerns me is it feels like I have a fast heart beat - is that normal?

hey Tornado-

Congrats on wanting to take your life back from the pills!!!  It's the best decision you've ever made, trust me.  I went cold turkey off 100 mg of oxy plus 30-40 mg of hydro.  The physical acute withdrawal was 7 days.  That was a high dose though.  And I'd been on it A LONG time and had tapered quite a bit before that.  It wasn't pleasant that's for sure but mentally I felt so much better after I got that poison out of my system.  I completely surrendered to the process and didn't fight it and I think that made things a heck of a lot easier.
You can do this.
Sending support...

Hi and welcome. I've seen many people come off of more than that. But it can get rough for a few days. Do what you can to spread out the 5 remaining pills a couple days to ease yourself off as best you can. How rough this will be depends on your physical condition. You really need to enlist help from your doctor. They have a few things they can give you to help you through this; especially Clonidine for high BP and sleeping problems. You need to not have any pills left as you get into the thick of things. Cut all sources. That's the most important thing! Don't save a pill for "later". They all need to be gone without access to more. You don't want to have access to more once you get through this process.

You can find the Thomas recipe on this page, below. Get those items, follow the directions. Also get Epsom Salts. The hot bath will be your ticket to taking care of muscle aches and pains, restlessness, anxiety and it will help with the sleeplessness later on in your detox. You will hear from more folks on here, but I want to congratulate you for getting your life back after those years on opiates. This isn't a bad thing happening, look at it as a good thing. In the end you will be free.

Hello and welcome! Well I totally understand how you are feeling right now. It's as though you are standing at the base of a huge mountain, needing a way to cross but feeling intimidated, and like you will never cross over it. At least that's how I felt when I finally put down those oxys and started this journey. Well I gotta tell you that cold turkey Will Not kill you! We are so afraid of the sickness and it keeps us using and using and using!  You can do this and after about a week of flu like symptoms, it's going to be behind you! You will find yourself on the other side of the mountain and from that perspective it will seem a lot smaller than you originally thought and well worth the climb!
So get prepared. It would be great if you could clear your calendar of responsibilities for a few days, just say you have the flu. Stock up on supplies. You will need Imodium for the runs, Epson salts for baths, motrin for the body aches and the Thomas recipe listed below will guide you on the vitamins and minerals which will help. Stock up on bottled water, Gatorade, protein drinks and some good comedy flicks. Stay very close to us here and post often, it helps a ton! Use the 4 pills you got left while planning and shopping for this and then jump in. The water is fine!
