What to expect?

Hey Guys,

I have been taking Norco 10/325 for the last year and a half at a prescribed dose of 2 pills every 4. Recently, my doctor started prescribing Percocet 10/325 at 2 pills in the evening. I never took the 2 pills of Percocet, I would take 1 1/2 per dose. So, total I was taking 60mg of Norcos and 15mg of Percocet per day. I know I have a dependency due to the fact that I would painfully watch the clock for the 4 hour mark. I have been sober from meth and alcohol for 5 years now and know how to diagnose an addiction. No question on wether or not I have a dependency. I was wondering what I can expect on the road to recovery here? I have never kicked opiates. I have reserved myself some Vicos(2 per day for today and tomorrow) and I had cut down to 2 norcos and 3 percs per day for 3 days prior to that. I have some Ativans the doc prescribed for a parinoia and panic spat I was going through about 6 months into taking my prescription when I tried to kick without cutting down on the dose. Maybe those will help me sleep in the first few days of the process. Maybe you guys can help on what to expect here.

Thanks for your input. I'm actually considering getting a taper schedule from  the doctor due to the fact that I have a family to support and cannot take off work or shut down mentally for any period of days. I'm so tired of being cloudy headed and short tempered from these meds. They did take away my pain, but, after being clean for so long the trade off is not really worth it IMO.

Hi & Welcome,

You are down to a relatively low dose so you should not have severe withdrawal symptoms. If you can get a few days off and get through this it will help. You will feel withdrawal within 4 or so hours after you take the last pill so get ready for that. You may experience restless legs, tummy issues, chills and basically flu like symptoms. Hot baths, light exercise and pushing fluids will help. If you are in generally good health it also helps. Down the bottom right of this page is "The Amino Acid Protocol" and "The thomas Recipe". they both contain supplements that may help ease the process. Potassium, if not in the recipes, will also help with the cramping.

Glad you found your way here. there is great support so stick around and ask any questions you may have. Someone is always around to support you.

And please be careful with the Ativan. I would hate to see you come this far and switch addictions which many of us do. So just be careful.

Hope to hear back from you. Congratulations on wanting to be pill free!!!
