Hi there and welcome. I understand your need for privacy. To taper your meds, your private doctor is the best one to guide you. For support and guidance, a psychologist who sees substance abuse . Many of them do. DO NOT see an MD who specializes in substance abuse because he will put you on suboxone or subutex. BAD idea. Sub is a synthetic opiate the cures the withdrawal symptoms but does not get you high. However the w/d from that is worse than the initial drug. And all you are doing is trading one addiction for another. It costs a fortune and makes the drug co and doctor rich. I'm assuming you are on pills, but if its heroin meth, meth, etc that's a whole different ballgame. If that's the case please tell us so we can advise.
I saw an addiction psychiatrist, who prescribed me some detox meds to ease the withdrawals. Tapering is fine, and all, but eventually you've got to take the leap. I found that tapering was more mentally-anguishing than the actual cold turkey withdrawal.
Can you take 3 days off (stack those days around a weekend) so you can just relax at home and get through it?
I'm a professional too - a lot of folks depend on me - so I feel your angst.
This can be done. Most importantly, make sure you have a plan for the long term. The physicals withdrawals are easy. You've got to make a plan to minimize the risk of relapse.
Here if you need me.
Google addiction counselors. Let us know how you are doing.
Talking on a regular basis with people who were using in the past or are in a process of getting clean can be helpful, Since they have been in the similar shoes.
At the end of the day you matter to yourself in the first place and don't allow anything to get in between that to stop you from gaining access to all the help that you may need and surely deserve. World is a busy place.
Great job Lola. Good luck reallytrying.
