I have been using an OTC med from duane reade called "tranquil day" which I have not seen mentioned by anyone else. I swear by it, think it does wonders. Its a combination of valerian and magnesium extracts with some hops. Definetly chills me out during the day, and does wonders in calming me down when its time to go to sleep. Its also a lot cheaper then going out and buying a seperate vitamin bottle for 10 different things, its 10 bucks for a couple weeks of pills or so. Theres also a "tranquil night" but thats just another diphenhydramnine like unisom or sleepease, I dont like those, they dont help me sleep and make me feel really weird. This "tranquil day" is a must get though, especially helps with the milder withdrawals later in the week.

I was in the hospital for 3 days because i accidentally overdosed on Vicodins (easy to do when addicted) My liver enzymes were so high they were concerned of liver damage. I almost died from the vicodins and was a huge wake up call for me. I originally took the med due to chronic back pain after prenancies. The pain is easier to deal with than the active addiction to vicodin. Not to mention the damage it causes! I have a long road ahead of me in my recovery but this forum is helping alot too. :) Try some benedryl for sleep to just for a few days it helps with the withdrawl.

Hi Brad.  Check out the 'Thomas Recipe' posted on the health pages (bottom right of the screen).  There is a big list of things that will help, both via a doctor's help, and over the counter.  I commend you for wanting to be free from addiction.  Its very difficult when you have legit pain and reasons for needing meds.  How much are you withdrawing from?  Generally with most narcs you will have about a week of sickness, then improvement little by little.  Withdrawal is awful, but it wont kill you.  I've detoxed so many time without any help or hospitalization.. Its a bit miserable but it is completely worth it.  I am now over 6 months clean off opiates.  Keep posting and let us know how you do.  Good luck.

Try Vit-B6, Vitamin C, PLenty of juice/gatorade, water, daily vitamins, hot baths...

You can do it...i asked my doc for a 5 day script for Ativan; it helps treat the anxiety you get with the WD. Be careful though, those can be addicting to, but 4-5 days, you should be ok...

Thank you for your response. How long were you in the hospital for? I think I'll make an appointment with my doctor to see if he can prescribe something to help with the symptoms, I think that would be cheaper than a hospital stay. I've had 21 surgeries on various parts of my body and now I suffer from chronic pain. I think at this point I would rather deal with the pain than be addicted to pain meds. Thanks again and good luck with your recovery.

I just went through the withdrawl myself but had to sweat it out in the hospital, i have been takeing motrin 800 for the pain associated with the withdrawl symptoms, knee pain, all over body aches. Hope this helps but getting off them is amazing. 7 days in and the rest of my life to go....:) Good Luck to you
