I have been on 10/325 percocet/ 50mg ultram for the last 3 months. 90 percocet a month and about 60 ultram a month. I am not addicted, I take the meds as prescribed for my pain but I want to eliminate opiates and synthetic meds all together but I am afraid of withdrawals. Is it something I can do at home or do I need treatment? I just don't want to be handled as an addict and that's how my primary doctor reacted to me when I mentioned my desire to take non-narcotic meds and detox from the others. He said there are meds that can ease the symptoms but he never prescribes them as he feels the patient needs to remember the state they are in when recovering to prevent any further abuse:(

I agree with your doc. I've been clean of oxie for twenty some days. It was misery stopping them. Percs are kind of same. If you've only been on three months it won't be that hard. Well let me rephrase that. You won't stay sic as long as some. Just tell yourself youll be better in a week. Why did you start opiates?  Me I have severe knee problems. I am recovering from a total knee replacement. I'm seven months out of surgery and get blood clots. Talk about pain. I'm getting a new blood clot now. I did have to take some tabs a few days but I didn't let them hook me. The oxies hooked me hard. I was choked by them. The best way to avoid withdrawals is taper. Can you do that?

check out the thomas recipe on the bottom of this page under health pages.  I did not do the tranquilizer, but did the rest.  Even tho you are taking them for pain and are dependent on them, you will have withdrawals.  There is a difference between dependence and addiction, but the withdrawals do not know that.  Post as you have questions.  Many have said that their pain lessened after getting off the pills.  The body seems to know how to keep us taking them.
