Day 16 - all opiate based medication for pain

Please advise as to when I will find some relief from the runs!! 16 days running!  Pepto Bismal helps some but I need to be close to a bathroom at all times.  Not sleeping but a couple of hours (3-4) at night on klonopin 2 mg!  Body wants more but I refuse.  Plan on tapering the klonopin when I feel alittle better.  I have been outside; 102* so not long.  Tried swimming yesterday (a better day) but today back in bed again.

The Imonium worked for 24 hours, diarrhea came right back.  Went to doctor as suggested.  Dr. ran CBC, metabolic panel, and everything was in normal range.  Dr. gave me fecal test kit, 5 different tests to be done in the next three days. Yuk!  After that colonoscopy.  Ugh!  I am alittle nervous about all this but feel better safe then sorry if, God forbid, anything is found to be wrong.  The coincidence is that the diarrhea started same day I stopped opiates.  Well, now that I told you all the poopy details, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.  I will keep you all posted after results come back.  Thank you again for your support  and kindness.   ❤ to all

Thank you all for your on the spot help and direction.  Hubby will now include the Imodium as suggested by whoa1 along with the electrolytes drinks as suggested by all.  I look forward to responding with some positive results very soon or the doctors office it is.  I think I'll eat that apple right now!  Thank you again!

I had been given opiates for migraines for the past 35 years.  I used them but did not exceed 6-8 per month.  After an injury, I used for pain, but not daily until that last six months or so when every day became the norm.  The hook was set; i am an addict.  Compounded problem with klonopin precribed for anxiety.  Have been on this for over one year.  It doesnt even work anymore and I know why.  Another addiction.

I run with a new crowd now, namely you wonderful people who talk to me every day and bring knowledge, support, and comfort.

The opiate property in Immodium does not effect you because it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier. It's an over the counter drug and it works well.
But 16 days is a long time to have diarrhea so if it continues after you adjust your diet, you should have it evaluated.

I wouldn't add iron to your diet unless you're anemic...it wouldn't be good for you.  Bananas and apples should do the trick!

Sending the hubby out for electrolyte replacement.  I will google for the best.  Thank you for pushing that; I have been drinking a lot of fluids but obviously not enough.

Alittle confused, why would I take a product that contains an opiate in it if I just detoxed from it?  Ferrous sulfate (iron) does the same thing to a lot of people.  Do you think it would be a good substitute?

A diet heavy in rice will help somewhat. But I agree with Kyle on seeing a doctor. That's way too many days. You need to guard against dehydration. Depending on how long you were using, the sleep will come back slowly but surely. Sleep whenever your body calls for it if possible, day and night.

Congratulations on your tenacity in hanging in there throughout all of what's going on with you. Never give up when the miracle is just around the corner.

Although having the runs is a normal part of detox it usually doesn't last for 16 days. USUALLY. We are all different, however, if this persists I'd suggest you go see your doctor. And - VERY IMPORTANT - drink liquids that have electrolytes added. You are flushing them out of your body and if they aren't replaced you can become ill.

I will tell you a great way to help with runs & W/D; take Imodium (generic or name brand)..it has a type of opiate in it, that binds to your stomach receptors. I took about 5 or 6 at a time. It really works..Look it up!.. P.S. That's why opiates stop you up, the same ingredient is in Imodium. Good Luck!
