can I be having withdrawls symptoms?

Hi I have been on percoset, vicodin, and oxycodene since Thanksgiving I stoped the percoset after my surgery around december 20th and I only take 1 oxycodene at bedtime . I have been taking vicodin every 4-5 (stretching it out longer at times ) hours since December 12th. yesterday aound ten am  I thought I had taken two by accident within an hours time of each other.. I felt it a lot stronger... so I am sure I took two by accident , so I decided to not take anymore that day because I did not want to take too much . I felt awful by 6 pm but at 8 I fell sound asleep for an hour  or so ,  I mean like a drugged stupor it was almost scary. I woke up and started to feel very strange... almost like I had taken speed or something my eyes wiould not close and I felt very anxious and agitated. I did not sleep one bit last night I was up all night long ...worrying about everything, my mind was racing and would not stop. My nose got stuffy and I felt crappy. I finally took a bath at around 6 am this morning and then promptly vomited. never once did I think that this could be withdrawl??? until  a few seconds ago . This is the longest I have gone with out a pain med since thanksgiving but is this really long enough for my body to be addicted ?  so I just took one a few min ago because I am not sure what to do... am I addited? I want to start not taking so many pills as my pain is getting better every day.  If my body has become dependent how do I stop? do I taper and if so what is the recomended plan for that?  add an hour or two between doses every day? help  I am now in a panic state .... afraid that I may be addicted to vicodin ....any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated ....

Sounds FOR SURE like WD's.

As jenjen said, call the doc that prescribed them to you. He can suggest a taper-plan.

It's not uncommon to feel WD's after taking pain-meds for only a short time. Actually, it's VERY common. One of the pit-falls of Rx pain-meds that "they" don't tell you about.

That's why they're so dangerous and must be taken with EXTREME care, no matter if you're an addict or not.

Don't mistake being an "addict" with simply being a pain-med "user". There's a BIG difference between simply taking them, and abusing them.

If you find yourself seeking, and calling for early refills, and buying off the street, or stealing meds from others... tell-tail sign you MIGHT be an addict!

Just because you're going through WD's, doesn't mean you're an addict.

That said, WE (in this forum) can for sure help you deal with the WD's if you decide to just stop cold-turkey.

This forum is not only about helping addicts, but helping/assisting all people that are wanting to stop taking drugs of any description.

Post back and let us know how and what you're feeling.

I understand , thanks ... it just sort of hit me that this was what it was . I thought I was coming down with the flu in the middle of the night and I could not understand why I was so wired . why does WD cause such worry and anxiety ? I take celexa for anxiety anyway so I just thought it was me being me but boy it got sooooo bad ... anyway ... I think I will do what you suggest if it does not work I will call the doc on monday . I will give it the weekend . I had back surgery and the vicodin made life bearable that is for sure . nice to know that there are folks here who are so kind and willing to reassure people

We aren't allowed to give taper instructions, but I can tell you what I did. I was on them a lot longer, about 2 years. I just stretched the dose as long as I could stand it. Whith the goal of skipping 1 pill. Then stabilize and do it again. This was too slow for me. Once I admitted to myself I was very dependent on them, I just stopped. If you can taper, try it. I've heard it makes wd much milder. Your Dr can help too. If you want to get them involved. Good luck! Others will be along with more help.

Forum rules prohibit members from posting a taper-schedule, unfortunately. I could PM you one, but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that as I don't know your SPECIFICS.

Please... the best advice I can give you is to talk to your doctor (the one that prescribed them).

Tell him/her what's going on, and let THEM prescribe you the appropriate quantity and tape-schedule.

It's nothing they haven't head before, I assure you.

Stick to the taper-schedule they prescribe, and you should minimize what you're feeling.

Depression, anxiety, sweating, cha-cha-cha, frustration, mood-swings... all part of WD's my friend.

thank you both for your help. I had no idea .now I am depressed. I took a vicodin about an hour ago because I was scared and did not know if I could just stop . How do I taper on my own? how long does it take ?
I still feel sick to my stomache but not so stressed . I just need to sleep .

Hi and welcome. It sure sounds like you are having wd symptoms. You can do a couple different things. Call your prescribing doc and tell them what's up. They can give you a taper plan to stop. Or you can do it yourself. You haven't been on them long.
