Aren't all opiates? LoL!   Hydrocodone is the hardest they say. It seems anything derived from codeine is nasty. Hydrocodone and other codeine based pain relievers  are  more likely to produce a high from normal prescription doses, and a stronger one than what someone may get from oxy, which is why it's the number one selling and abused opiate in the USA according to what I've read.  I've never tried hydrocodone, so I wouldn't know.
I have taken plenty of Oxycontin, but never got a high from it,  just the physical dependance, and it's plenty nasty alright! Just knowing that there are opiates such a suboxone and methadone, hydro's etc. that produce worse wd's, is enough to make me never want to try them for any reason.

How to detox off oxycontin at home?   Well, why are you taking it in the first place? Do you have a chronic pain condition?  How much are you taking a day and for how long?

Depending on how much you are taking,  it may be best to taper down to a low dose before quiting them.  This is a hard thing to do for most people, not because it brings on any feelings of withdrawals, but because of the psychological aspects of the physical addiction. You KNOW that you took one less pill, and it plays on your mind, even though you don't really feel any different. So it's better to start off tapering slow at first, until you have control of this urge to take each and every pill you are prescribed. You WON'T feel any different missing one pill a day. Because oxycontin releases slower than oxycodone pills, you will always have enough in your system by the time your next dose is due.  It's really just a matter of getting past this fear, then you can start tapering  a bit more. Take your time, don't rush it. before you know it you will be down to a lower dose without realizing it.  The only problem you may have is if you are managing chronic pain. You can expect your pain levels to rise as you decrease your dose.  But it should be tolerable. It may not even increase. It all depends on what your condition is or was when your began taking them in the first place.
You should really consult with your doctor first, just in case there are other problems and medications involved that may need to be considered before you quit taking your oxy completely.
