Worrying about oral surgery I am having in the morning.

I will be going to an oral surgeon in the morning to have a molar extracted. I am such a big baby. I am afraid of pain. Can you believe it? Years of pain medication to help control serious medical conditions, and here I am shaking in my boots over this stupid infected tooth I have to have pulled. They said no Motrin because of risk of bleeding, but I can take Tylenol. I will be put to sleep as the doctor said he has to clean up a big mess. I will be offered pain medication too. I hope I will be able to sleep tonight, and not stay up worrying. What a mess I have got myself into?

I quickly read ur post.  I at first thought u where being mean too till I re read it.. lol I'm sure patty did what I did.. she is being protective which is a good thing :) I'm positive it was a misunderstanding. . Boy, hope if some one  does actually be mean to me patty will hop on them for me! Lol here in Missouri they do give out pain meds for teeth pulled. As a adult I've never had a tooth pulled. . As a kid I did.. gave me a liquid pain med that knocked me stright into the goofy train hehehe I was 10 I believe. That day is a blur... hehehe

BraneGame, u may need pain meds after this.. so be prepared. . This isn't the middle ages and u have to suffer with pain. . Just be carefull like refills..   woke up wanting to check on u this morning :) hope all is well.. figured it would take a day or two for u to get back on..

I would let the dentist know you are in recovery.  That way you can come up with a plan that will work for you.  It is usually the best if you have someone hold the meds for you and like bearsfan said, only get enough for a couple days if need be.  You will be surprised at how effective OTC meds actually are so you may not need anything.  I have found with teeth that it is a relief to get those bad ones out and the pain isnt that bad.  Hopefully that is what you will find too.  Let us know how you are doing~

I had 3 teeth dug out of my jaw. Literally. A 30 min procedure to pull them turned into an hour & half. I was awake after.

I will admit the first 24 hrs was rough.  But honestly norco doesn't work for tooth pain. Tylenol 3 does but that has codeine in it right?

So stock up on Extra Strength Tylenol. Motrin worked great for me. I can imagine that Tylenol will be fine too. Take the max dosage you can.

Don't take the prescription. You are tough. You can get through it. I mean it. I did. And I am a baby when it comes to pain.

When someone posts a question or a concern it is usually because they are up against something unfamiliar or they are not sure how to handle it and are looking for either advice or positive reinforcement or simply a friendly voice offering encouragement. My personal opinion is that trying to belittle what they are going through will not help them much at all and really is kind of just plain mean. Like I said-just my opinion.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at once. I don't know where all guys live that they give pain meds to pull a tooth but I wish I lived there when I still used...I'd have no teeth left. Lol. You'll be fine. If you smoke just try not too for 5-6 hours or you'll get dry socket. They numb you up good then tylenol will work when the numbing where's off.

Maybe you could tell them you only want enough for 2-3 days and no more. Do you have someone that could give them to you when and if you need them? Also I found that Aleve works really well with my back fractures, maybe it will work for tooth pain?
Sounds like it is going to be major tooth work....
I will say a prayer for you!

Do ur best.. don't feel like a failure if they pain is to bad.. ur having oral surgery and it's no picnic ... u chose to be knocked out to avoid pain meds.. which is fantastic..  ur using your head!

Don't worry about the pain until you wake up and then you can figure out what to do. And I mean wake up from the surgery. Maybe he will do such a good job that it won't hurt that much when you wake up. This is going to be a tough decision for you to make.

Do you honestly think you can take something for the pain for 1 day, maybe 2 and then stop. I know I couldn't but maybe you can. This is going to have to be something you give alot of thought to.

I am so sorry that you are being forced to face something like this so soon into our recovery. If you have to take something just make sure you take it for absolutely the shortest amount of time possible, then let it go and soldier on.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you tomorrow. Patty
