getting off percocet

I have been on percocet 10 for about 3 years due to the fact I was in a car wreck.I have pain in my neck, right leg and hip. I want to come off this medication. I take it  5 times a day and sometimes I need it more due to the pain. Cold days and rainy days are the worst. I am on klonipin and ambien due to panic attacks and insomia. I want to know what side effects I can expect if I start taking myself off this medication. I have too busy of a life to stay in bed and try to sleep it off. Can someone give me any advise. I need to be able to still function. I know I will still have pain bt if I can get it to where I can take it 2 times a day I will be happy. I am desparate. I want my life back, tired of worring that I will run out of my med before I see my doctor each month. Any help will be appreciated

You are so right. It is great to have a place to be able to discuss this stuff without being worried ppl are going to think bad about you and put you down. It is great to have a place to go to get info without fear. If more ppl knew about this we could probably see more ppl get off of alot of different kind of drugs. This is somewhere ppl can come to without being embarrassed.
You are a wonderful person  and your words are so touching and helpful. I will keep you posted on my success. Because of you I feel I can do this...

That just shows you how un-educated the medical proffesionals are on the drugs they prescribe. The unfortunate part all these drs rely on the pharma companies (or as I like to refer to them pharma PIGS) for thier marketing BS.  I am sorry to hear about you mother in law and hope she get through this quickly. I wll pray for God to sit at her side and take some of the pain for her God Bless---quitin

She's probably going thru 4 days of bad wd's here and nobody is paying attention..Thats ridiculous..Her doctor ought to have known better..

Yeah, this forum is probably the most informative site out here..I was in cold turkey for 7 days back in April before I found it, and then found out all the in's and out's of these wd's..It helps to be knowledgeble of what to expect..Not knowing can make a person batty...

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I have neve visited this forum before today and never knew one existed.You have been so kind. I stumbled over this accidently.
I have been doing research the last two days because my mother in law(72 yrs old) went to a new dr and he took her off her xanax that she has been on for ages because she has tremors which is kinda in the same boat as parkinson. He also took her off her lortab that she has taken for years due to back surgery which they had to put cement in her back. He put her on ativan and now she is in the hospital in rela bad shape and having hallucinations. She has not slept in 3 days (this is at the hospital) I think they are getting ready to maybe put her in rehab, but if u ask me I think the dr is the one who messed up by taken her completely off the mes she has been on for so long and giving her ativan only, I just hope we can get her back , get her mind back. So through out my research for her I found this forum which is great for me. God bless you and I am asking God for a special prayer for you because words can not begin to tell you how much you have helped me. I was so afraid I would never have a chance to get off theses narcotics and be a real person again. The money it has taken from us is unreal as well as the lost time. You are truely a blessing. Thanks for making me feel like I can do this and giving me the feeling of hope again.

Everyone that comes here that had no idea of the true nature of the wd's these pills create have had that very same concern..The answer is yes, you do get your energy and life back..Some get it quickly, some go thru a month or two of cloudiness on average but it does come back..You are not taking a real high amount compared to some so I would think you would recover fairly quickly..Maybe a month before you got back to being your old self...Some people in here were eating 20,30,40 pills a day..They are the one's that take far longer or have more depressive symptoms.. Because of the volume of the drug that was being injested screwing up the neurotransmitters which then take longer to repair themselves

I go to my pain clinic on the 8th. I normally take 5 pills a day. How should I start tapering myself off. I thought maybe 3 a day because I can take my ambien to help me sleep so I really need to just take the percs for the time I am up . I thought  taper to  3 a day for a week, than 2.5 for a week, than 2. for a week, than 1.5 for a week than 1 week than .5 a week thanNONE... Or do u have a better plan. I respect your advise.

Will I ever get back my natural energy so I can be a good grand parent and wife? I am just so scared I will never be normal again. I afraid I will never get to go through a day that I have to not take any mess just to get thru the day. I never thought I would find myself at this place. I never did drugs or anything. All this because a police office hit us in the rear end of our car woith his because he was on the phone and he never got charged.. I feel I have lost my life. I wonder if I am about to try to fight a losing battle.

There always hope :)  On the pain? Questionable..Someone was posting here recently who is about two weeks clean that actually said the first week or so was real bad with pain but now it has subsided some. Still there, but actually less than the pain they were experiencing inbetween doses. As you get more familar in the forum, there are tons of people with their suggestions on things they do to deal with any residual effects and making it. There is also the "Pain Management Forum" in here you might want to visit. They are all battling pain without meds..:)

Im with you man !! yesterday was the worst for me today I just feel very very weak . Jaw is sore to but this may be related to TMJ I got from taking painkillers . Thank God TMJ can go away over time . Hang in there ! :)

Thank you so much. At least I feel like there is hope. Is it possible once I am off the meds that some of the pain will go away? Or will I have to live with this pain from now on. I can not take things like advil or NSAIDS due to a kidney problem so I do worry how i will handle the pain as the pain was so bad I could not get thru the day without taking something.
