Congratulations on wanting your life back - and for good! You're blessed with some great advice in the above posts. The Thomas Recipe, finding an end your drug source permanently and above all...aftercare. Aftercare keeps you keeping on, long after the withdrawal is over and when you're feeling just so great... that your former addiction starts to sweet-talk to u again.
Addiction gets real serious real fast, too fast sometimes.
I just came off of vicodin 7.5s. Almost 90 days clean for me this time around. As a recovering addict/alcoholic I was clean from all drugs and alcohol for many years. And then I blew out my back, was prescribed hydro and I simply and very quickly got addicted. This is my 3rd time getting clean from my major relapse from taking just 1 vicodin 4 years ago. I found that for me I had to really commit. So this time I cut myself from my source, I go to my support groups along with posting/reading on here every day. Addiction is a life or death thing for me now. It's the first most important thing that I deal with in my life now. If I use, forget everything else I now enjoy in life. I again become a slave to my drug of choice. I don't think I have another recovery left in me. Jails, institutions and death. That's the future I'm messing with if I go back and use.
First things first Trav. Get your withdrawal items together, and above all cling to that willingness you have to get free from the bondage of hydro - that willingness is the ticket to your freedom. You've empowered yourself to keep going, past the withdrawal and into recovery. Don't do it alone. "I can't but we can". Keep posting as much as you want. Let us know how it's going. You're starting the New Year out great!!!
Toothfairie has given you some excellent advice to use the Thomas Recipe on this page. It is either at the bottom or the right. It really makes a huge difference in easing withdraw. There is no way to avoid all the symptoms, but does help make them doable.
As you know detoxing is the easy part when compared to living life without them. I have relapsed many times myself after getting off them. The key was that I didn't seek out help with aftercare. That is vital to staying off them. Meetings, your Dr., Family, Friends, etc. You need the support of these people to help you stay clean. We are so afraid of what they will think and come to find out, they either knew or are so very supportive and happy to see us want to take back our lives. Being accountable to others helps immensely. We are as sick as our secrets they say. Also, you must cut out any contacts you have to get your supply. Delete them from your phone so you won't be tempted to call. You can't take what you can't get or have, right?
We can help you get through this and find life again. Congrats on wanting to take the first step. We are here to help. :)
