help help percocet/xanax cold turkey?

HELLO!  I, TOO, CAN TOTALLY RELATE.  I HAVE HEPATITIS C, TOOK TREATMENT AND WAS A COMPLETE RESPONDER, IN REMISSION FOR 6 YEARS.  I INJURED BOTH LEGS AND HAVE BEEN ON PERCOCET 10, XANAX AND ALSO BP MEDS.  I WANT OFF NOW!  I HAVE TEENAGED BOYS WHO NEED ME NOW.  I NEED AND WANT MY LIFE BACK.  PLEASE HELP ME!  HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE AND HOW BAD WILL I FEEL TO GO COLD TURKEY OFF PERCOCET?  I HAVE BEEN ON IT FOR APPROX 2 YEARS.  WHAT ABOUT THE XANAX?  I AM SO SORRY TO READ EVERYONE'S STORIES...BUT I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE OTHERS WHO KNOW WHAT I'M GOING THROUGH.  PLEASE ADVISE.  PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!

Just want you to check the label: Are you positive you're prescribed 10MG Xanax (alprazolam) daily? Please check, and check again.

Look for decimal points, and make sure it's XANAX (alprazolam).

Please type in the information on the label.

Hi! Just saw this and I'm right there with ya girl!

I have Hep C and am supposed to start the treatment, like 3months ago, but I have a small percocet habit I'm trying to kick first, and I take klonopin, have for 9 years for panic attacks. Have been between drs due to job loss/insurance and having a hard time getting refills on my klonopin, and I can't kick the perc habit without the klonopin (I've tried). I can't start the ribaviran treatment until I'm stable on the klonopin again (so I don't have panic attacks and withdral sysmptoms). I LOVE the kolnopin, it has saved my life and I have never had any ill effects from it. Stopped life-long panic attacks cold, in one hour. I'm taking the percs illegally, but I can get a ton of them whenever I want, I just don't want them anymore, but I'm having trouble getting the real meds I do need. Stupid. I just want it all to go away!
I need to get off the percs so I can take the Hep C treatment (dr doesn't know I'm on them, if I told him, he may not treat me then cuz I'm an illegal drug user). I'd also be kicked off any future treatments or god forbid, a transplant list, due to the stupid perc habit. So I can't tell ANY doctors about it! My new psych dr won't give me klonopin for panic attacks if I tell her I'm abusing perocet, I'm sure!
I'm a mom of 3 young kids and I have to save my own butt here. I hate not being able to get help, I just can't afford the stigma of being in the "system".
I started taking the percs cuz they gave me energy and helped me get out of bed in the morning. Now they are just a pain in my butt!

Hey there! Sorry for the late answer but with the new profile page I was lost for a while!!!Me very duuuh LOL
Anyways for your xanax, I'm sorry to tell you that it's gonna take a little while, Nowhere near the 5 years of using them tho....
If you can, try to have your dr switch you to valium, it's a long acting benzo that doesn't give the "high" that you may have with xanax.

Thank you so much for responding!  My xanax use has been 10 mg/4xday over a course of probably 5 years.  I am TRYING to wean off the percocet; but still knowing they are there I am taking too many.  NO REFILLS.  Cold Turkey is the way for me, I believe.  Now xanax, I don't know about.  I realize I may have to taper off - but for how long?  I am switching docs, since mine is too easy to treat me with pills; and I don't say "no."
theeagle - wow!  how great you were a part of the trial at mayo!  I know from fairly recent bloodwork that my liver panels are elevated.  I have (stupidly) been drinking beer - almost 6 a day, which I have stopped.  It seems like I have SOOO many issues to deal with that I just don't know where to start!  I am terrified that I have damaged my liver more and more.

I was in the clinical trial at Mayo that established the interferon/ribavarin therapy. Prior to that - there was no cure. And the cure is rough on you. Do need to know a few more particulars.though, how many percs for how long? And zanax?  I am sure that you are aware that you need to do this gently with the liver. Even though you cleared the virus - I would bet there is some fibrosis and such going on. Be very safe. Include any liver information if you could. You may also PM me anytime that you wish. Welcome to the forum. Can you tell me a little more about the xanax you're taking? How much? for how long? I'm tapering off benzos for 11 months after 9 years of very heavy dosage, maybe I can help.

THANK YOU!  I am on 10 mg taking (supposed to be 4, but normally 6) daily.  Almost totally out, so I am waiting for the illness to follow...any help is greatly appreciated!!!

How many mgs of each are you taking daily? You can go c/t off the perks,BUT you need to taper off the xanax.It's probably best to do the perks first and then work on the xanax taper after.I don't have much knowledge about the xanax,but plenty members here do.I can answer some questions about the perks though.
