help me

I am a chronic pain sufferer and I am in so much pain I abuse my medicine. I was in a bad accident when I was a teenager, I fell out of a car and now that I am older i am in serious pain from the time I wake up to all night when i try to sleep. I know if I abuse the medicine that I should not take it, so what do I do if I know I can't deal with taking the right dose? Every time I breathe I hurt so bad in my right shoulder blade I almost am scared it's my lung that hurts.
Please help....

Thanks to all who posted me, I'm just gonna do the cold turkey way. I will take my 800 mg. motrin and muscle relaxers starting tomorrow,  I have to get the mri of my left lung next week.  Please pray for me I know the next few days are gonna be tough, not to mention I have a baby.
Thanks guys!

hey there..

have you tried any other methods of pain management?

there are ALOT out there.

if you've tried it all, then i too, would suggest someone doles out your meds.  sometimes tho, the problem is, they stop working.  thats why alot of people ramp them up (well, part of the reason, anyway.)

i didn't think i could do without the meds because of pain too.  but i'm more pain free now than ever.  not to say we have the same pain.. i do not know how you feel.

but like i said, if you haven't - try some other methods of pain management (there are some GREAT pain management specialists out there) if you haven't yet, if you'd like to give it a try to get off the narcotics.

good luck to you.. and welcome.
warmly,
mj

beth,
Betty is right the opiates can make up pain appear to be worse then it really is . I too am a cronic pain sufferer I have very bad TMJ when I was on meds I would have crushingly bad headaches .It took at while after I quit but I am hardly in pain anymore and when I am a can take an anti inflammatory and a muscle relaxer and feel better .Having someone else hold your meds and give them to you is a good way of doing it ,if you decide to taper off of the meds having someone else hold them is great to.

I would recommend to find someone to give you your meds on a schedule... also you should keep in mind that being on opiates can cause more pain than they are treating... if you were to go off the meds long term you would probably find that your pain isn't as severe as you thought... I wish you the best
