Neurontin

Does anyone know if Neurontin helps alleviate symptoms of withdrawals? I've read it all over the internet that it does, but I  find that hard to believe.

Yes it does, speaking from experience. I was on pills, no not very bad but enough to withdrawal,  had been on suboxyn for thr past year or so. if i didnt have it my legs would drive me insane. Got some neurotin quit everything cold turkey amd been perfectly fine for the past month.  So yes it works for withdrawal symptoms!

This is all so interesting and I thank you for sharing. I take Neurontin ONLY at night bc it helps me sleep but I otherwise hate the way the drug makes me feel. It surprises me that it is abused, but that would explain why lyrica is controlled-it must have some abuse potential. The kicker on this all is that I don't have an addictive personality. I allowed myself to become addicted this time, but I'm in my late 40's. If I ever get out of this mess,I'm not going back.

I'm not sure if it does..I just wanted to say to be careful I'm 9days off a 2yr methadone stint and I was thinking about anything and everything to help the wd's.. I went to the emergency room not for wds but while I was there I asked about suboxone and the e.r doc.. looked at me n ssaid I can't run away from wds no matter what I do methadone. .suboxone..xanax..I'm gonna feel it no matter what..so unstead of trying to nit feel the wd I'm apparently gonna have no matter what I've embraced it n keep telling myself ill never do this again..ill remember how I have felt these past couple wks and how I never want to feel this way again...I knw its hard believe me I do my stomach is still twisted. .I'm still not sleeping..but on the plus my legs  don't hurt as bad seems like its only at night now when I try to relax....good luck

Lyrice (Pregabalin) does help  I take it for chronic. Pain. Its a calcium chanmel blocker that also blocks certain neurotransmitters including norepinephrine which helps relieve the anxiety associated with withdrawal. Be careful though!!!. God bless.

I totally agree with you.  You have to be careful and only use it for a few days.  It can be abused and addictive as well especially with people who have addictive tendencies.  I wouldn't use it for more than 4 days if you are using it only to ease opiate withdrawals.

I speak from experience with love... Please be careful with using Neurontin... my husband who is addicted to opiates has become addicted to the Neurontin as well. It may sound silly, and I don't have a ton of knowledge on drugs and such, but you can find and read countless forums with people talking about how they abuse the drug, and the horrible withdrawals they go through when running out of it. My husband used it to lighten his opiate withdrawals, to enhance his mood and counteract anxiety and he became very dependent on it. Rather than using it situationally, he began routinely using it whether he needed it or not. He became very dependent on it and as his tolerance went up, he required more and more, to the point that he was taking approx. 3,000 mg a day. Now he is out and is at a high risk of having a seizure. On top of that, the depression and anxiety from not having it has caused him to relapse.

Pat, I realize you're not a dr. but can you tell me how much you took to get withdrawal relief? I have samples of both dosages. This is such exciting news to me! Wow, what if it really worked? I would be so happy. This process would be so much easier.

Also, stop taking all opiates.  I would only advise you to use it for a few days if you are going cold turkey, otherwise, it defeats the purpose.

Absolutely.  I took it (I was prescribed it) when I was going thru a heavy oxycodone withdrawal and it stopped all my withdrawals within 2 hours.  I seriously, felt great.  I was prescribed a high dose of Lyrica and didn't take it as I didn't believe it would work. (I wanted opiates and was really mad that my doctor wouldn't prescribe them).
Anyway, I had heard it worked for opiate withdrawals so I decided to try it and was amazed at how it took away the sweats and everything.  I was up going for walks, cleaning my house and felt better than I had in years.  Unfortunately I couldn't afford it, so I had to go off of it and it was hell.
If you only use it for a few days, you should be fine.  Make sure that you give it a couple of hours to kick in before you take any more.

Seriously? Because I have Lyrica as well. I was wondering why Lyrica was a controlled substance. Perhaps there is a potential for abuse, although when I took it for my problem, it only made me feel dizzy. Do you think Lyrica could help with withdrawal of a 6-7 daily dose of 30mg Oxycodone?

It does alleviate withdrawal symptoms but you have to be very careful that you don't become addicted to it.  It also takes about 2 hours to really kick in so, you have to give it time.  Lyrica works amazingly and takes almost all of the symptoms away.  Gabapentin isn't quite as effective but it does help.

From everything I have read it does help minimize some symptoms such as restless legs, anxiety and depression.  It wont help with the stomach or bathroom issues.  It may help some with sleep too.  Not sure about the energy though.
