"CAN'T" never did anything!!

I shared this with someone but thought I should go ahead and share it with you all. TO ALL OF U WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE ME & PAVED THE WAY... FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.. I THANK YOU!

I was just thinking back to 4 months ago when I first came here. I remember asking "How can I stop taking pills when I can't even get out of bed without them?" I truly felt, and believed with my whole heart that my existence revolved around the pills. I didn't think I would survive or be able to function. (Im a mom, I work, etc.. Etc..) The excuses I came up with were ENDLESS!
Wd's seemed like the end of the world to me.
I felt like"if these people just knew how bad I'm feeling they wouldn't tell me it's going to be ok."
I WAS WRONG!
THEY WERE RIGHT....
It's like the flu.. It really ***** but you ride it out and in a few days you feel better...(physically)
THEN... THE REAL WORK BEGINS!
Something you will hear that might not make sense in the beginning is "GETTING CLEAN IS EASY, IT'S STAYING CLEAN THAT'S HARD!"

I just wanted to share this with you because
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.... And the advice here is AMAZING because it comes from people who have taken the journey before you.
YOU CAN DO THIS and you have a whole support team here rooting for you!
Nobody will tell you it's easy but EVERYONE will tell you it's worth it!

There will always be...someone ahead of me...and someone behind me...on this amazing recovery road.  I learn from BOTH!  Equally valuable.

Can't never did nothing.....but "I can" always does!  Having a teachable spirit is a priceless possession~

Thanks, Rosy~

Your right about that girl! This is DEFINITLY a place where you can LEARN something if your willing! OMG! IDK WHO said it but on one of the threads the other day someone made the coolest comment ever... It was something like " Whoever woke up first has been sober the longest!" I LOVED THAT!

I know that when I first came here there was a small group of us that were just starting out. We called ourselves "The Secret Detoxers Club" It was actually pretty fun. We made up things to put into a Secret Detoxers backpack that we would carry with us at all times. It was silly, but made me laugh, and took my mind off of the withdrawal symptoms, and all the emotional crap that goes with it, it only for a few minutes.

Your right! Aftercare is SO important! When we've tried it "our way" and failed its time to start listening to people who have some time under their belts. No one is better than anyone else but their is always someone with more wisdom because they have already "been there, done that." pride plays no part in recovery! If you need help ASK FOR IT! Staying sober at all costs is what its all about!
BEFORE you use--PICK UP THE PHONE and give someone the chance to talk you out of it!

Ok I'm going to try this one more time so it makes sense lol...my cell phone just randomly decides when I'm done and sends half the message ughhhh! LOL Anyhow, I was trying to let you know how awesome you are and how much I needed this post right now! I know all too well that the words you speak are so true! "getting clean is easy, staying clean is harder, and that's where the real work begins!" I have suffered through wds many times, getting past the physical part, but then the real world of functioning as a single mom, with a job, living with my overbearing parents that think I should do 5million things a day, plus they have their own pill issues and a house full of pills. So, I end up making it through all the horrible physical part, but as soon as I can start doing anything without feeling like I'm dying, everyone expects me to be right back to doing Everything and being wonder woman and I cave and end up taking a pill to " function" to everyone elses expectations. So, this time I have to really buckle down, get the best aftercare in place, I already see a therapist and I'm going to get back into church, keep a positive mind, stay motivated and I know now I have to try my hardest to fit in some na, actual face time with other recovering addicts, get some better support and im not really sure what all I need to do for the best aftercare and better coping skills and the right plan to help me STAY clean this time, but I'm willing to do any and everything it takes! If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!!! Thanks!

Thanks Rosy!  I just want to add also, that there is always someone who is taking the journey with you. No matter what stage you are in, there is someone to walk with you who is at or near your same stage.

Hope that made sense. Take care.

You've come a long way in 4 months! Your steady laying down that cement yourself everyday...paving that road for others. I like how you shared your thoughts and feelings that you had during the beginning of your journey. I'm sure others can relate to them...I sure did.

"I didn't think I would survive or be able to function. (Im a mom, I work, etc.. Etc..) The excuses I came up with were ENDLESS!"

I told myself the same stuff (minus the mom part) That's just our addiction lying to us some more trying to keep us high.

So ya...like you and Ric said haven't never couldn't ....or something like that. ヅ
