i'm going cold turkey off of methadone, 90 mgs. last time i tried and couldn't get off 30 mgs. does anyone have any suggestions on how to cope with the withdrawl symptoms?

house1 is right..there is no sugar coating that one at all..i went cold turkey of 65mg. It is as horrible as they come..i will be free from it 2 yrs thid aug 1..i don't want to discourage you either..pm me for more info...others here will have some good suggestions too.

90mgs is much to high to go cold turkey from, I must recomend that you take another plan of action as this dose is way to high, I cant make a personal recomondation on how to cope with withdrawals off of 90mgs, Its just simply not rational. Now if you want me to recomend how to get off methadone its usually done by a slow taper, this is what I have been doing for 11 months, I started at a 90mg dose & am curently at 2mgs, & this was done slow & steady, as I was in no hurry to jump this ship as I knew if I jumped to fast I would only set myself up for failure. Also even going slow I have had my share of withdrawls, be it they are mild but regardless I couldnt even imagine the hell Id go thru had I detoxed off of 90. So can you do a slower taper? 90mgs a day for how long?
You do no that Methadone W/Ds are horrible don't you.
I don't mean to discourage you because it can be done but you better have a lot of
toilet paper.

May I ask why the doctor and you don't work out a taper schedule to get off your Methadone?
