Scared and need support from others

Okay so I used to have a serious problem with vicodin.  I was up to almost 30 pills a day when I decided to quit cold turkey.  By the third day I ended up going to my doctor and found out that I was on the verge of having a heart attack.  She gave me clonidine, which helped, and I was able to stay clean for about 7 months.  I recently had surgery on my elbow and was given Percocet for the pain.  So now here I am, hooked on these ******* pills again and I am about to run out.  I was told to make them last, and like any true addict, failed miserably. I am so scared to go through the withdrawls again and I am scared they will be even worse now. I am so disappointed in myself and was wondering if anybody could help me through this?

Ok, 10 will be rough to come off of cold turkey, but since you were on them just 3 weeks and clean 7 months before that, there is a very good chance it won't be as bad as long as you don't keep using. Do you have enough left to do a fast taper? I think you should talk to your dr and see if she can help and just be honest about your addiction and have the pills cut off if your pain is better now.  Your not alone and almost everyone here can relate, so stick around. You can do this and look into some aftercare, it makes a big difference too. Good luck.

TD,  I respectfully disagree with your view.     Had the poster been clean for just a few days well then maybe that might have been the way to go....but after making it through 7 full months,   why not explain to the doc your recent history and avoid a setback at all costs.     I sound better because I am better now but I was in a detox unit three times due to heavy us of benzos.      Trust me I know how addiction ruined my life.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone of you.  Answer your question, I've been taking about ten percs a day for about three weeks now.

The obvious and sensible route doesn't count when you're an addict. I'm happy for you that you would have chosen the other path. Maybe this isn't the right forum for you, you sound much better than we all are!!

"""""""I recently had surgery on my elbow and was given Percocet for the pain"""""""

Had I been in that position,  I would have told the doctor what you recently went through and that you need to avoid at all costs going back on a similar addictive drug.    Just seems like common sense though I do realize you were in alot of pain.....BUT!.

Welcome to the forum. Percs are stronger than the vicodin. You were taking a lot of vikes before, how many percs have you been taking per day on average now? How long have you been taking the percs? We are here to help, any more info would be good. I am sorry you have to go through this again.

I had a friend that went thru the same thing!  Just hang in there and find hard candies to grab when you feel like you want something or keep yourself busy.

Ok, you may be in for a worse w/d.  Percocet are stronger than Vicodin.  But, maybe since you haven't been taking them for as long this time you will have a bit easier the quicker you can get off of them.

Is there any way you could go to an addiction therapist?  Or maybe even see your doctor and get some non-narcotic meds that will assist in the detox?  Like the clonodine you mentioned your doc gave you last time.  There is no easy way around this.  Tapering your doses is just not an option, you and I are one in the same, I eat my pills rather quickly also.  I had to have some one else ration the pills out to me, b/c I would eat them up as quick as I could.  LOL

There are also some very interesting OTC and herbal remedies listed in the Health pages (Upper right corner of the screen).  I was reading through them last night and they are very imformative.  If you have no other option, such as seeing a doc (or in addiction to seeing your doctor), these remedies could prove useful.  In fact just from reading posts on this site, they seemed to have helped many people.

I wish you the best of luck!

I feel your pain. I took the leap again two days ago and it's awfull. Does the clonidine work? I wish I could get some. I am broke though and no way to go to the doctor right now. I wish you luck. Just know you are not alone.
