It is interesting when I told my doctor I didn't want to take the vicodin for my pain anymore she said - "well do you want to be in pain or not" When I asked for a taper plan she said everyone is different and was really at a loss for what to tell me. I really think the doctors prescribing this crap need to perhaps take a class on alternative pain management so their patients don't get in the position many of us are now in.
Best of luck to you - It is a rough few days but the mental and emotional clarity that will follow is awesome and it sounds like you are ready for that.
Careful with your blood pressure as it is normal for it to go up during withdrawals -
My pills are prescribed but when I run out like a lot of us I have other options of where I get them. I do have a blood pressure problem that I take medication for so I am glad you brought that to my attention. My plan is to go cold turkey because I have not been successful tapering. I will be sure to monitor my blood pressure during the process and if it gets out of control I will head to the doctors or ER trust me. Thank you all for your support and input - wish me luck.....
Congratulations! Have you made any plans for your physical health during your detox? I'm sure you're aware that withdrawal is pretty unpleasant, but there are things that can help a bit. Have a look at the bottom right side of this page and read the Health Pages about the Thomas Recipe and the Amino Acid Protocol.
I'm assuming that your pills are prescribed, so have you asked your doctor for help in tapering off them? If you have any other medical issues like high blood pressure, you'll need to keep a close eye on it. Withdrawal makes blood pressure increase - sometimes very dramatically - which can be dangerous if yours is already a problem. I don't mean to throw a damper on your enthusiasm and commitment, but rather to make you aware of potential problems. Please stay in touch and let us know how it goes. Sounds like you're going to be a winner!
That is awesome, it sounds like you have a good plan - you will enjoy everything again.
I have decided to quit this Saturday with full support from my husband and some family members (it is not something you share with everyone). I hate those pills!!!! I know the withdrawals will be bad so I have been preparing myself mentally. I can't wait to feel better and start enjoying my retirement.....
It will get better!
When I first started taking pills, the energy was amazing - I was superwoman, very efficient and very focused (although I always did smoke more cigs) and that lasted for awhile...but when addiction set in that changed and began to have a reverse effect. People had warned me of reaching that point of no return...I wish I would have listened. As hard as it was for me to accept, once you become an addict you are always an addict.
You can get past this though and this place is great for support, knowledge and encouragement. Keep posting and you will get your spirit back.
Hi! When you get off the pills you'll have your life back. What you describe is typical for some and not for others.
If you're making yourself sick, it's just not good. Get off of them and try Motrin etc...for a while.
Post back and we'll try to help with the process of leaving the pills behind. You should also speak with the prescribing physician about this.
Have you decided when you will quit? It is so good that you have decided to quit. I am so much happier now that I am not on those pills anymore. There is no more worrying about them and making sure I have enough until a refill. I have more energy now that I am not taking them. Good luck to you and I wish you the best!!!
