Oxycodone withdrawel

I have been on Oxycodone 30 mg 6 pills a day for 8 months.  I want to go off of it but I don't know how to do it safely.  I get so anxious when i miss a pill and start to sweat.  I am not working right now so my pain seems to be there all the time.  What do I do?  If I go off it cold turkey what should I expect?  If I should taper the doses how do I do that most effectively?  Please help me.

Justneedtotalk has given excellent advice. There is little to ad.

Just remember that if you stop cold turkey and go without the drug for several weeks, and again start in at the same high doseage, the cells will "reset", becoming more sensitive and there is a good chance you may go into respiratory arrest. I

Welcome.....I have always been a big fan of cold turkey.....The bad news is that you are on a pretty high dose and the first week is going to be difficult but the good news is that you have only been on them for 8 months!  The tapering method is VERY difficult and many do not have the will power to maintain the regiment....Plus, your withdrawal symptoms last longer because you start going through withdrawals throughout the taper....Cold turkey is going to be difficult at first but it is like ripping off a bandaid....quick and painful for a second or the slow pull that hurts a lot longer!

If you prepare for your cold turkey and since you are unemployed anyways it will be the perfect situation to detox at home.....You need a bunch of the supplies that dovecottage mentioned and read the amino therapy protocol article on the health pages on this site.  You are going to feel crappy for the first four days or so but you will quickly start feeling better after that.  Aftercare is free and vital.....You need outside support so at the very least you can figure out how to live life without pills.....The withdrawal symptoms subside quickly in relation to severity at the beginning but after you feel better the random temptations and cravings are difficult to turn down.....That is why aftercare is important.  Well, we are all here to help you through this.....It will not kill you, it will actually make you feel a lot better!  I am over a month sober off of a similar habit.....I went cold turkey and it was tough but with the help of the suppliments, protein drinks, and exercise it is possible and let me tell you that life on the other side is fantastic....Yes, I still have rough days now and again but even the rough days are better than the days on the pills....At the end of a long addiction I was getting to the point where I could not take enough to get that same go go go feeling.....I was actually feeling worse and my energy and enthusiasm was in the toilet.  Now sober with a little time under my belt I can honestly say that I feel tons better than when I did using.....You are going to want to take lots of hot baths and valarian and melatonine will be your best friends but get lots of liquids down you throughout the process and as soon as you can start exercising you will feel better by leaps and bounds.....You can do this.....I hope you choose wisely.....and God Bless!
