neurontin and marijuana

Currently on 300 mgs. of neurontin 2 times a day for chronic pain. Can I smoke marijuana while taking this medication, or should I stop taking the meds. ? My goal is to get off the med. if marijuana will help the pain. Thanks

Realrad-- what I will say is neurontin should be tapered if you are going to stop taking it. I took it for 10yrs...1200 mgs a day.  I did use both at one time. It was not habitual use. Why are you taking neurontin?  If it is for seizures. .I would definitely speak with dr.

I'm not sure if anyone here can or will answer that question.  Here our focus is on being substance free not on legal/or illegal substances that can be abused.  This is really something you need to talk to a doctor about....and even if you live in non-medical marijuana state you can still talk to your doc.  My hubby did way back when with no reprisals.

My other advice if you don't want to talk to your doctor is to go to the Chronic Pain forum here at MedHelp.  There are a lot of non-addictive, non-opiate medicines that can help you with pain.
