nurofen plus addiction

Hi, I cant handle the resless legs and the insomnia without resorting to taking n+, was taking 20 a night for the last 2 years, now taking between 6-8 depending on how bad it is. Do you think if I get sleeping tabs Ill be able to get off the nurofen + and what are the chances of me getting addicted to those. I live in South Africa there is no valium here, herbel remedies do nothing, havnt asked the doc yet as these visits are very expensive here, any advice would be great, just cant make it through the night without this poison?

Hi folks

Just found this site. I am looking to get off these damned things too. Started about two years ago, innocently. I do suffer from depression, have done most of my life on and off and never really been treated for it. This last year though have tried three different anti depressants and have awful side effects from them all. The last one caused memory loss and I ended up being looked after by the police one night when I could not remember anything. After that I decided to try and look at other ways to manage this depression. That awful feeling you have in the morning - in your guts and don't want to get out of bed. All of that. I started the gym - make myself go and it has really started to make a difference. Diet too.  But I still take the nurofen + at times and want to stop them altogether.  I saw Lynn above talking about a drug Mirtazepine. I was put on that only 15mgs a day. I took one and was not able to get off the bed for two days. And it gave me the most awful restless leg. Not just the legs - arms too and all over. I can see you are all a great support to each other so will use this too in trying to come off these awful pills. It's crazy. You get a buzz for about five mins and then are left looking more. Not to mention the sickness and God knows what we are doing to our stomachs, livers, kidneys and the rest. I have a friend who has been taking these things for years and I have no doubts they will kill him. Has had more surgery than enough and now has tumours on his liver. He looks like walking dead. So let's try and get ourselves off these things folks !  :-)

Hi,
Sorry to hear the doctor was not much help, hopefully you will find another one. You are doing so well with cutting down, hows the legs? I think when i got down to as low as 4, i then went to 3 for a 2-3 nights then 2 and so on. For me i knew it was essential to have s/pills in place for my lst nurofen free night as previous experience has shown me that one night of no sleep and i am back on the codeine again.
Keep going strong you are doing so well.

Hi there, well like you said the doc wouldnt give me sleeping pills, but its so funny she prescribed neurontin and seroquel 25, they are both mood stabilisers, what I find funny is that to me they are worse than the bloody nurofen, they have horrible side effects and what I have read is that you are so high all the time you dont care about anything, which is basically how I feel in the first place without taking this stuff, I would rather be high on nurofen plus, so I am back to square 1. Bee taking 4 N+ for the last 4 nights, will try my best to go down to 2 until I find a doctor prepared to help.

Hope you well xx

When i realised i really was trying to do what was best for me i found myself in a position to (politely) demand sleeping pills. I had to see different doctors to get what i wanted and now they can see that the s/pills helped me overcome my addiction. What i am trying to say is don't accept no for an answer. I suspect most docs have not expienced restless legs. I managed to get off the s/pills. I was precribed 2 wks supply but I went back and asked for another month because codeine is a hard one to crack and withdrawels can go on for sometime, especially at night. Then wanting to come of s/pills my doc changed the
(low dosage) anti depressant that i am on to one you take at night called Mitazapine and it helps you sleep. It actually does ...  after many years on and off codeine i now sleep well all due to one small (30mg) pill.
Finally  i would suggest you taper you codeine intake a little more and dont stop all at once. Have you come off them before? If you haven't i think the best way is to cut down maybe by one every 2 nights. In the meantime you can get your s/pills ready and start them when you are down to 0 nurofen.
Will be thinking of you and good luck

Hi, I have recently managed to get off nurofen plus about 3 months ago. I know exactly what you are talking about when you mention restless legs and lack of sleep. The only way i could get off those dam pills was by using sleeping pills. I asked a doctor for zopliclone which i find great. Of course i had to do a bit of persuading as i have admitted my drug addiction to him and doctors then think you get addiction to anything. This of course is true, but i like you was up to 20 a day and one 7.5mg of sleeping pill seems pretty harmless compared to  that.
Very best of luck to you
