I'm 18 weeks pregnant and taking more than 240 pills of 10/325 percocet a month!

I am being prescribed 240 pills of 10/325 percocet my family doctor a month for my chronic back pain. I am now 18 weeks pregnant and I also have 3 other children ages 8, 5, and 7 months. I've been trying to ween myself off the pills but every time I do, it seems I'm taking more. It's really hard for me to quit cold turkey and I've tried to several times and each time I get really sick, and the pain is unbearable. I'm also really afraid of what will happen to the baby. Will the withdrawals hurt the baby to the point of aborting it. I am very scared and don't know what to do. Can someone please help me? I don't know what to do.

Thank you all very taking enough interest to post a comment, I really do appreciate the advice. Sad_Woman, my Dr. Prescribes me 2 every 4 hours and I can take up to 12 a day. It is alot more than the average person, but I've been in pain for about 6 years now. So my dose is quite high. I just pray that my baby will come out healthy n happy. I don't know if I could live with myself if he came out otherwise.

Your doctor knows your pregnant right? He prescribes you 8 a day?? I thought perks were *usually* prescribed 1 every 4 hours but I'm no doctor.. just seems like a lot for a doctor to prescribe. At any rate do not go cold turkey. that definitely could cause a miscarraige. Talk to your doctor about doing a slow taper. If you do it low/slow enough to not feel wds then you'll be fine but again, you need to talk to your doctor. Once you establish a realistic taper plan see if you can get someone you trust to hold your meds and then you will be less tempted to cheat on your taper. I feel for you because I also had bad pain during my pregnancy. Obviously you know thats a lot of meds to be taking while pg and I think it's great you want to lessen the amount but just talk to your doc so it can be done in a safe way for your baby. Let us know what he says. All the best to you and your baby.

I too was taking a lot of pain meds during my pregnancy. I am happy to say I have a healthy and happy 9 month old now. I was scared to death during the pregnancy b/c no one knew the extent of my meds intake. He was born perfect and weighed 8 lbs and had no wd symptoms.  Talk to your dr about maybe lowering how many you take. I know it's hard and lord knows I couldn't do it. You are in my prayers! Good luck and congrats!!

First of all NO WEANING OR COLD TURKEY without discussing it with your family doctor or obgyn. If you werent pregnant I would say go for it but since you are you really need to get medical help with this. 240 a month isnt a lot compared to some so dont freak out. You can come off of the medecine but it may take awhile and you definitlley shouldnt do it on your own. I wish you the best of luck.
