I agree with ricart here. Pot is a drug and i cant believe that it is healthy for an unborn child.
Yeah you defiantly want to tell your doctor. especially if your on state insurance, I believe the do a drug screening when you go in to have baby.
yeah I am surprised that this thread seems to have turned into an infomercial on how weed turns babies into geniuses.I seriously doubt there is any real evidence supporting that other than the anecdotal as read above.
This may have gone unnoticed back in the day but with the drug test protocol of hospitals today, this can only result in unnecessary problems for mother baby and pretty much everyone involved.I hope the op does not listen to any of this advice for the obvious reasons.
I think you should talk to your doctor about it and let him know what's going on. They can test the babies meconium (first bowel movement) and it will show any and all drugs you have done while pregnant. Then cps gets involved if anything shows up that shouldn't be. So since you didn't know you were pregnant until just now and you have been smoking pot if you let your doctor know what's going on ahead of time that cps won't get involved. I use to work in OB so just a heads up they don't need your permission to test the babies meconium or your urine or blood for drugs while pregnant. We use to do it all the time where I use to work. Good Luck to you
I just have to say, that while all of these stories about people using during their pregnancy, with good outcomes are great...no one should mistake that as it being okay in any way to use MJ while pregnant.
Of course there are going to be different levels of danger and risk depending on the substance, which is why, it's better to avoid anything and everything that may cause harm to the baby or pregnancy.
Beyond the risks to the baby, there are the legal issues. If a baby tests + without the mom revealing that she used MJ, CYS absolutely will be involved, and WHY would anyone want to go through that?
Plain and simple, regardless of the varying opinions, and the anectdotal stories of the people who did fine, it's just a no-no. Unless a doctor aware of the pregnancy prescibed it...there is just no way to ever justify using it while pregnant.
I have several friends who smoked during theirs and mainly for the nausa and all their babies are fine. Congrats on you lil baby boy :))
My friend smoked pot all through her pregnancy and while it is in no way ideal and she doesn't feel great about it, she has been able to get ok with it watching him grow and thrive. He's super smart. currently studying Russian in Moscow. Good for you for stopping, but try not to worry. I don't know the legal/custodial implications, though.
Im 27 Weeks Smoked Up Until 25 Weeks Struggling But Glad I Stopped Because I Heard They Test At My Local Hospital And Involve CPS Nothing against smoking moms :) my mom smoked pot with me never been sick with evem the flu and graduate a year early....I hope my little boys as advance as I was
I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 6 months along...I was considerably overweight...and I smoked weed the whole time. I would never condone any drug use in pregnancy but my daughter turned out just fine. She is about to turn 9 and is smart as a whip...I consider myself lucky though so I would stop now.
What sarah said.
nope i have a friend who was told by her dr they would rather have her smoke a joint a day than a cigarette in her entire pregnancy .
Oh my. Glad that isn't my doctor. That's just amazing.
Any type of mood altering substance isnt good for a baby. While the baby is developing good now who knows what the long term effects could be. Not the risk i would take. Testing is usually done after a baby is born and any surprises like that usually ends up with a visit from CPS.

id say the issue will become apparent when they drug test the baby
Hi lexi. Welcome. While I would never advocate smoking while pregnant now, I did smoke with my first 2 kids. Today my oldest is a 3rd year law student in one of the best law schools in the country. Her sister graduated from highschool with her associates degree that che completed at the same time. She was 16. She is now working on her masters. Just a little reassurance.
