Dropped and feeling up!!

I just need to shout from the rooftops (but that would require other people besides my doctor, my husband, and my best friend finding out about my addiction) that I am down from 50 mg Hydro a day to 30 mg. Still a long way to go, but I am doing it slow and making progress. It really has not been too hard as of yet, and on Friday I drop to 22.5 mg, as my doc is changed my script from 10's to 7.5's. He is writing it for 3 a day for a week, then 2 a day for a week, then 1 a day for a week, then .5 a day until the script is gone. He will not be giving me a refill again. I am excited, but also nervous, as I do know that the WD will set in someday. I have already given the new bottle to my husband and I have no idea where he put it (and no desire to). He will give me my pills for the day each morning...and that is all I get. I really think I am going to beat this demon this time!! I pray each of you are conquering your battles too.

Aftercare can be many things.  NA or AA...therapy with counselor or your minister if you prefer that.  Anything to keep you active and busy and positive.  I began doing volunteer work and spending time with clean friends in a positive atmosphere.  I am sure others will jump in with idea.  The idea is to find positive ways to stay healthy and strong.  For many finding out "why" the pills took over our lives is helpful and necessary.

having your doctor involved will really make the difference.  If you were like me, I did not search for outside sources.  too scared to risk going that far...so telling my doctor stopped the source.  Slow taper is good.  At some point you are going to feel some withdrawal symptoms.  Be sure to stock up on some stuff just in case.  Imodium, carnation instant breakfast, start taking some of the Thomas Recipe vitatmins and minterals ( if you have not already).  You are doing great!

Thank you very much! I'm feeling very optimistic about it, but I know that it will get hard at some point, so I will keep coming back here.

Let me ask, what is the aftercare that Vicki talks about? What exactly does that entail?

Thank you again!

Your plan is perfect, especially having someone else hold the pills.  It's exactly how I tapered off and it worked very well for me with few side effects.

You might start thinking about some aftercare now, it's not too early. There are several ways to go and maybe you could begin to check things out now.

Keep posting for support and all the best to you!

LOL
You are doing great and it sounds like you have an excellent taper plan.  It's so much easier when you have your doctor on board and also someone who can hold the pills for you.  Having your husband do it and supporting you is so awesome.
Love your positive attitude.  Be very proud of yourself.
