Is tapering working or am i fooling myself

Im on 3nd week of tapering from 8 norcos a day to 3. take 1/2 in the morning, 1/2 at noon, 1/2 at 5pm, 1 at bedtime and 1/2 in the middle of the night. The first day i did go through terrible WD but it seems my body is getting use to the lower dose and my desire to get back to the 8 is non-existant as i really really really remember day one. I do have a back problem and get a script from Doc. I can see stopping the 5pm dose and then the noon dose. When i look back i was abusing for sure and only realized it when i started tapering with the WD . Am i fooling myself in that i feel i have control because i have a supply and am doing a slow taper? Whats interesting is that my mind looks at this different now. I now know what abuse is and also know what withdrawal is and the small urge to take more is slamed back in place by  remembering day one as do not ever want to go through that ever again. The short temporary high is not worth the long permanent side effects.

Hi and thanks for the input. I have scorisis in my neck area. Only option is to have surgery and file out the boney growth that is pressing on the nerves. My doctor believes that these meds when used mixed with the other things you mention are considered pain management only to be used to find a pain tolorance level until surgery is decided

sorry. (well) those same people have relapsed, 2,3,5x. it would be better to try alternate methods to control your pain, massage, exercise
chiropractor,physical therapy,hot and cold compresses,acupuncture.
you said you know you abused them, that is good you are aware of it and can admit it. you have been on them for four years. has it improved your back pain? or only when you are on the pills? the pills mask the symptoms of pain, they arent meant to heal, cure the pain.

So far you have done a great job on your taper.
So you don't plan on completely stopping? Sounds to me like you are going to try and control the pills. More than likely won't be long before you are taking to many again.
How long have you been taking them?
Back pain actually gets worse whilre on pills. It is called hyperalgesia, check it out.
So many people have  said there is no way they would start to use again, take as many pills as they werer, they would never put theirselves through the horrible pain of withdrawal. Well,
