Hey just thought I'd add my two cents on this too. My husband was given a very low dose, not enough to have much of an affect on his blood pressure but enough to help with the wd symptoms. According to our family doc, when it's used for treating patients with optiate wds its effective at low dosages, low enough to not worry about what effects it has on bp. It helped him with his cravings, from what I understand from him his cravings would hit hard along with or at the same time he had anxiety. It seemed like it took a couple of days for it to kick in but once it did it seemed to help. Also, it seemed like it took a day or two after that for it to help with sleep. The Amino Acid Protocol seemed to help a bunch!!!! I really believe in it....even though we're going down this road again.

Don't forget the calcium and magnesium too!! IMHO flaxseed might be worth checking out too, I've heard of people grinding it up in a coffee grinder and using it for severe depression, anxiety and I've also heard of some people in the herbal community suggesting it for suicidal people. Obviously if suicide is being talked about immediate professional help is needed so please don't take that as a suggestion or a replacement for help.

You can do this :).

Hi Natalie, isn't it nice that we got all this interesting information about Clonidine. Thank you all for the education on this one. It's funny - I've always been so scared to take any pills - with just a few dramatic exceptions.
I had to go back and look for snappy. I thought Mr. Man was endearing. And I just couldn't resist teasing you about how your last attempt at a withdrawal palliative worked out. But I'm so pleased that you sound like you are coming around to feeling well. I can hear it just through your typing. There is a little more vim and vigor in every post you put up today. Way to go!   I'll say goodnight and look forward to hearing how you sound even better tomorrow.

Clonodine will not take w/d symptoms away since it is not an opiate, but it can be very useful to help insomnia. Also, w/d can cause increased blood pressure and pulse which can give you bad headaches and make your anxiety seem worse. Clonodine decreases blood pressure and pulse and it is also given to ease anxiety for some people with diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder. It definately could help  some of the symptoms of w/d, but you do need to be monitored by an M.D. due to the effect it has on blood pressure.
Good luck in you endeavor to get clean

Clonidine is a BP med//not recommended if u have a low blood pressure but even tho it is a strong drug//it can be bought online without a scip....a drs supervision is best ofcourse

it slows the body down//helping curb the runs, RLS, anxiety and helps with sleep...used short term only for wd cos as a rule ur BP is increased during wd//but not always...peeps who use this drug r usually in wd from very strong narcotics or very large amounts of any narcotic...but physiologically...it will work to curb wd symptons
If i had rls and sleeplessness/anxiety..i would choose this over sub or methadone..ie switching to another narcotic/ anyday of the week used very short term...i did not have these symptoms but many do...exercise is the best remedy fo almost all wds/stats say peeps who exercise and stay active are far less likely to have rls...

we do what we gotta do...a plan for aftercare can take the place of just bout anything so u can hang on to this goal of cleandom u r seeking...doing this over and over sux major hotdogs....good luck and keep posting

kolo,
I know probably better than anyone that there are no magic pills to make it ALL go away. But if it helps and this isn't seeming to subside, well then why not? :) Mr man!

I was prescribed clonodine for withdrawals in the past. It is by no means a miracle pill or anything, but did help a little. I was able to get some sleep and also took away most of the hot/cold flashes. Helped a bit with the anxiety because of lowering my blood pressure I think. But all in all, I still felt like a big bag of you know what! Guess it was better than nothing but not sure if it helped enough considering it is just another pill a was taking. The way I see it is what is one week of hel!? That one week of it is worth every second of it.

Really Lee. What does it do to help ( if it's something you can describe). I know it used to be used more often but my only direct experience with it was hearing from a couple of people who were disappointed that it didn't help more. People are always looking for a pill to make WD go away. But now I am very curious.

It used to be, along with a motrin, what they would give someone who was having a bad withdrawal in jail. I never heard anyone say they thought it helped much though. C'mon Natalie, you already learned this week that there are no magic pills, right? <3 <3 <3

do you mean clonodine? clonodine is a BP med but it helps WD. it does not take them away though as you stated. It just helps regulate your BP and tempers down some of the chills/hot flashes symptoms and such
