Hi & Welcome,

Tell us what sort of symptoms you are having and we can help you with some home remedies. Many here have used vitamins and natural supplements to help ease the withdrawal. Also you need to make sure that you keep yourself hydrated during this time and try and eat if you can. It's important to care for yourself during the physical withdrawal stage.

Not that it matters at all how much you were taking but I can tell you it was not 4,000 mgs a day. You would be dead. Still, whatever it was I congratulate you for wanting to get off.

Write back and tell us what is going on and we will help you and support you.

Yes, welcome. I'm in day seven of a cold turkey detox from Norco 10s, basically the same thing that you've been on. Read posts on this site! I did that from day one, and didn't submit my own post until a couple of days later. In this site you will discover that we are all different, but most get through the difficult physical withdrawal crap in about four to five days. Afterwards, the mental side can take longer. As Kleen stated, find the right combo of vitamins, keep drinking (Gatorade worked for me), and give yourself some time. You won't feel like doing much / may not be able to do much. Talk to people, be honest with them. I decided that I never, ever wanted to go through this again, so I emailed my doc and had him red flag me as an abuser. You will have to decide what your future holds, but believe me, there is a future. A quote that I found on these pages that help me "count the seconds, count the minutes, whatever it takes to get you through". Congratulations on the first, most important step. Keep posing.

P.S. - I was taking 5 to 10 (mostly 10) Norco 10s a day for over a year, and messing with pain meds for over ten years. I'm on day seven, feeling better. You can do it. Just buckle in for a tuff ride for the next several days. You will feel better, promise.

You may have bathroom issues and for that you can take Imodium. You may experience rls at night when going to bed and for that there is a product called "Hylands Restless Leg". Also hot baths and exercise will help to loosen the muscles and stop the spasms. If you look below and to the right you will see "The Thomas Recipe" and "The Amino Acid Protocol". They both contain supplements that many have found helpful. As I said, be sure to stay hydrated. I don't know if you work but if you can take a few days off to get through this it is recommended.

And keep talking to us. we will help you through this.

You can do it!   It would be a good idea to get some good movies and watch them to keep your mind occupied.

I just got home from work. As stated, today is day 7 for me. And I've got to tell you, I feel very good. Not "normal", i.e., flashes of anxiety, etc., but I enjoyed myself today. So, you've just about wrapped up the first day, day and a half. Stay on this site and you will get great help and support. The next few days may be bumpy (another word for hell), but you will do it. If you feel weak, post. We'll be here.

I don't know. I'm sure someone will respond to you soon. If not, start reading other posts - find those who have similar addictions. I know that Lulu and Vicki have been very helpful to me. I think somewhere Lulu talks about using epsom salts. Hopefully you've got the vitamins, Gatorade (or something similar), etc. All the info is on this site. Read. You'll find plenty of encouragement too.

Mickey:  Are you alone?  Is there anyone who knows what's going on with you?  It's always a good plan to have at least one person aware, Okay?

Use about a cup of Epsom salts in a hot tub. Add a little more as you add hot water...soak as long as you can. It's amazing how much this will help you.

For your RLS:  You need to eat bananas, drink orange juice and lots of water, take capsules of magnesium and potassium (follow label directions), and you can also buy a product called Hyland's Restfull Legs at Walmart.  Be sure to keep drinking, it's very important here.

I'll be here for a few minutes if you have any questions...

Mickey: Vicki and the others have given great advice the only thing I will add is keep yourself nourished. I know you don't feel like eating now but get some ensure or other protein drink it will make a world of difference. Also try to get some sort of exercise it will help with cramps and the restless leg thing. Get your self some good movies or put the headphone on and listen to some good music. You can and will make it through tis I promise, I did any I'm a big baby. I will pray for you that you have a good night. God Bless---Rick

Yes get yourself some melatonin (you can get it in any pharmacy). It helped me immensely when I was going thru w/d. Also try some valerian root it helps with the anxiety and will calm your nerves.I hope you can get some sleep tonight.

OK...I always misspell this, but I got a natural, over the counter sleep aid with Melatonin in it. Others have used stuff you have to get from a doc, but I didn't want to go any where near more pills, but, that road has worked for a lot of great people. I went down to a CVS Pharmacy and picked some up with my vitamins and G Ade.  And quitinoxys makes an excellent suggestion - you probably won't be able to, or want to eat for a few days, so stuff like Ensure is great. In fact, I'm drinking one now to help with leg weakness caused by no eating. It is my last; I've been drinking them for four days.

Hey Mickey...
Hang in there-you're doing great!  Absolutely follow VIcki's advice (I lived in the tub for 5 days) and the Hylands+ bananas solved most of my RLS...About the melatonin...I saw a detox doctor (after my detox of course(;) and he said to make sure to take the melatonin when the sun goes down (4:45 pm here)  It regulates your natural sleep/wake schedule...If you can't sleep-don't panic...Try listening to music or watching mindless television...Get up and walk around instead of tossing and turning...The more you can move your body the more rest you will get...I know that sounds weird but it's true...
Sending support....Lu

Mickey...
I'm off to another joyous night of tossing and turning. I'll check in to see how things are going when I'm up (for the fifth or sixth time) tomorrow morning. If you think about it, you really are on your way. About 13 hours have passed since you first posted...13 hours! That's over half a day! See - count the seconds, count the minutes, whatever it takes to get you through. I'm really looking forward to seeing your posts about eating breakfast, taking a walk, having that first twinkle of OKness. You'll do it. See you tomorrow.

Hi Mickey-  The headache and backache is normal but nasty! Keep your fluid intake UP (very important).  Try some OTC pain reliever and ice to the back of your neck.  The hot bath will help your back.

You're doing great!!

Great to hear. I think your age may help your ability to deal with the changes and adjustments that are taking place - all good. This is a very exciting time, although you may not see it quite that way yet. Hold on to this experience. Learn from it and stay healthy.
