Liver and alcohol

I am a 33 year old male who is a very heavy drinker and has had a past addiction to pain meds. I am very concerned about my liver. I had elevated enzymes last year and I have continued to drink heavily everyday since. I am not jaundice but I have abdomen discomfort and I have lowered appetite along with occasional nausea. I am trying to quit drinking but having a tough time. What is my outlook and should I consult a physician about my liver concerns?

How well or long a person survives is individual. What you know for sure is that you are damaging your liver. One of the biggest problems alcoholics face, in addition to liver problems, is malnutrition. You are not eating. That is typical. As an alcoholic you must improve your food habits and you must supplement with good-sized doses of vitamin B1.

Hello. Ya you should definitely get checked out. The liver has amazing regenerative ability if damage is treated early on. But use of alcohol and meds with tylenol or acetominophen will make things worse. Best wishes, GM

lots of pain meds have tylenol in them...and sometimes they are loaded with it...this s@#! can kill your liver ..........sounds to me like if you keep up the drinking and meds you"ll be having problems that last a life time and are not at all fun...i guess it's up to you what your goals in life are are...good luck...billy
