should we get treat Colestroal med

My husband has Picks disease/ frontal dementia and went for a phyical and blood work came back with high colestroal/sp .  He is in moderate phase of the disease 7 1/2 years into it.  He didn't want the medicine so I give him flax oil and cherrios .  What other things should I do?  We both don't want him to take alot of medicine which he is already on Namenda and Aricept which costs us a lot.  He is starting to have swelling of the prostate and will check it next year.  This disease starts in their 40's to 60's and usually  10 to 13 years.  He is 66 year old in sept.  Should we put a lot of money  into drugs and than he will be helpless in a few years/ like alzheimer's.  He already can't write and reading is getting hard.  Still looks normal and can do most of the things he does everyday.  He doesn't want to be on machines or kept alive if there is no quaity of life.

how is it going ? Last night my husband said it was cooler outside than inside and he wanted all the windows open but still wanted tha air conditioner on.  I said windows open , air conditioner off.  He got mad and had a fit so I did it just to satisfly him and he went to sleep and I shut the window. He couldn't figure out the ice cream machine at the resturant and on it was written in big words choclate swirl, and vanilla but he didn't know which was which.  Simple directions are getting really hard for him to do.  We were putting the sm. airconditioner in the bedroom and I asked him to move the fan and he put it right in front of the window.  I said we needed a adater three prong to a two prong and he brought me a power strip.  I asked him to take out the screem out of the window and he went to the other window.  He has helped to put the air conditioner in for the past 6 years.  Now he can't understand how.  He can't see things in front of his plate or a fork that is out.  He reached over and will take mine.  I hope things are better for you. take care

He isnt that bad yet, but he does lose his temper more easily now I have to walk on egg shells, but he still does his work okay, if I ask for help he doesnt want to help me he is very contrary, I dont think he likes us doing much together any more he seems very Distant.and even Hostile at times, I try not to think too much about it as its scary, but I am also concerned at his Judgement in money matters, He odes do odd strange things as you said, I have always been part of a couple with him and its the aloneness of it that I worry about, until its bad enough for the kids to see and I doubt if they will know what to do then anyway ,they will stay out of it.hey Ho I guess like you possibly did I have to wait and take it as it comes, I didnt expect this and I really have a hard time believing it . Thanks for all your input it had helped me a lot.I am sure there is a club of Care givers to join, I dont think I will ever get him to see a Doctor.

I have been online reading up and he does seem to be dispaying a lot of the Symtoms ,the stories from the caregivers wre similar, I have joined the Support Forum so I can get a Handle on it and try to do what I can, thank you for your support.

Thanks for the update. things never seem to be easy to find but if someone digs deep enough than answers are found.  Never rely on one doctor  if the things don't seem right.  I found another good medical help spot  check out www.helpguide.org/elder/alzheimers- disease dementias caring  caregivers.htm  they have little line down between the words but the first part to Alz. should get you there.  Good luck and hope he can get another good job.
