rectal discomfort

I have a problem with rectal itching and discomfort. I have this itching problem deep inside my rectum.  When I feel this discomfort I sit on the toilet and have to insert my wet finger deep inside to relieve the problem, pressure is released and alot of mucus comes out. Now I can feel like a vein protruding on the inside. This has been going on for a couple years now.  I did have colonoscopy last year and my doctor said everything was fine.

OK.  From what you say, you have had all the appropriate tests.  The only thing I don't know is if the proctologist took tissue samples for examination.

I'm hearing your fear.  From my experience, anxiety over a body issue, rectal or otherwise, can intensify symptoms.  Mind/body connection.

While everyone has something they simply have to live with; in other words a chronic condition with no cure, you do need to believe everything has been done to isolate and diagnose your problem.

Have doctor/s who tell you there is nothing wrong, given you ideas for how to deal with your discomfort?   Bottom line (no pun intended); I can only think of a biopsy of irritated tissues as test that may not have been done.

I agree with your answer, as far as doctors possibly over looking something. That is what I am afraid of. I've had stool samples tested for parasites and are negative. Hemorroids are not the problem as well. I have been to proctologist and found nothing. So what do I do next? Thanks for all the response.

I agree with 29sillygirl, it sounds like hemorrhoids.  Try using preparation H and if that helps, then that is probably what it is.  If not, I would see my doc to make sure it is not something more serious.  Good luck!

Saying everything is fine is not enough.  A cursory exam producing a general comment.

I was told everything was fine by doc who wasn't looking closely at anus: I had stage IIIb anal cancer by the time I self referred to a surgeon.

You don't have symptoms that are compatible with anal cancer...so that is not my point.

It is just that some doctors probe the colon without giving much attention to rectal/anal area.  You need an answer to this discomfort so....see a doctor for rectal exam.  Colonoscopy not needed for what you describe.

Try getting an exam to see if you have a protruding vein: I wouldn't worry overly much about mucus.  We all have that.  Bloody discharge is quite another thing.

Sounds like hemorroids: swollen veins are what they are.  If you have an infection, it can be treated.  A stool sample would be needed for examination.    Good luck.

Have you been tested for food allergies or perhaps parasites? I heard, I dont know how true it is tho that itching is a sign of a parasitic infection. Antibiotics would be helpful if that is the case. You need to see your doctor to be tested for these to rule them out.
