Your doctor will know nothing about this. They don't study multivitamins in med school. The people to consult would be a naturopath or a holistic nutritionist, though be aware they will try to sell you a professional formula you can only buy from them since it guarantees repeat business. One a Day are useless, use toxic dyes to get those pretty colors, and are just eye candy.
Im currently taking One A Day for women, but as soon as my doctor returns from vacation Im going to talk to him about maybe finding something different like you suggested.
Thank you. :)
First, avoid the multis sold in drug stores. They use cheap forms of minerals that can cause this problem. The most likely culprit is iron. Taking them with meals usually negates this, but sometimes a certain brand just doesn't set well. The solution is try another from a good health food store and see what happens. I will tell you the brands New Chapter, Rainbow Light, and Mega Foods are the least likely to cause this problem because of the way they make their vitamins and the inclusion of a lot of whole foods with the nutrients, but they are also expensive and you have to take several at a time because they can't get these types of nutrients into one pill.
I also take a multivitamin. As long as your doctor says it is fine, then you are doing the right thing in my opinion. Another great resource is your pharmacist who fills your prescription. Normally, a multivitamin is fine; it is when you start taking other supplements that you find at some stores that can interact with your Lexapro.
Have you ever considered trying a different multivitamin? I get REALLY nauseous from certain brands of vitamins. I am not really sure why, but some just don't agree with me. Furthermore, I also have to be sure to take them with food in my stomach. In my opinion, taking a mulivitamin is a good thing...keep us posted!
