Of COURSE it is normal to experience a surge in your anxiety around your period, it is due to the increase in hormones in your system.
As far as the pill goes, it is also very typical to experience an increase in anxiety when first starting a birth control pill (or injection, implant, any chemical method of BC). This usually subsides as your body adjusts to the new level of hormones. It's definitely something to consider when making this decision. If your anxiety is not very well controlled right now, it may be optimal to hold off on starting the pill until you can manage/decrease the anxiety.
Thanks! My anxiety it pretty well out of control right now. I even have a mini attack creeping up on me right now. Has being on birth control lessened your anxiety at all? I was on it as a teen and it seemed like my extreme anxiety lessened, but it could be just a coincidence.
I find myself to be more anxious as well in the days before my period. Even though I have been on my anxiety medications for several months, my anxiety is extremely difficult to handle. I am not sure why this is but I assure you that you are not in this boat alone. I take birth control along with medications and my doctor told me that they will not cause any issues between each other. I hope this was of some help.
