Is it normal to go off your food when stressed with anxiety?

Is it also normal to lose weight too?

Omgshhh yes and it *****. When I first noticed my anxiety really bad, I practically stopped eating for days. I'm already a very thin girl and not eating made me lose weight to where I looked sick. Which made me freak out even more. But dont worry, your appetite with come back eventually. If it doesnt, talk to your doctor. Hang in there ♥

Yes. I absolutely have to force feed myself when going through bad anxiety. Usually a breakfast bar for breakfast, for lunch some fruit always seems to go down easy, and for dinner, honestly a peanut butter and jelly sandwich always goes down easy. Even if none of it tastes good, it all is pretty good for you, and your body needs it. That's kind of my anxiety diet when it gets really really bad. Also, I'll stock up on those Boost drinks to drink in between meals. They are to help maintain a healthy weight, and are loaded with nutrients. :)

This too shall pass! I know the feeling. You start weighing yourself, and next thing you know you've lost 5-10lbs in a week. It can drop FAST when under high anxiety.

Don't get into the habit though of freaking yourself out over a little weight loss. I lost about 10 pounds a few months ago, b/c i struggled through an anxiety spell for about a week. Slowly but surely the anxiety lifted, and my appetite returned, and I gained probably 15lbs back over the Holidays. LOL.

Just be rational if you do weigh yourself. Don't be scared. It's ALL LOGICAL. If you are losing weight, it's not b/c you are sick, it's just simply because you are not eating very much. That's what happens when you don't eat very much. You will lose some weight. Try and look at it on a positive side. Losing weight can be a good thing. :) That's what my Dr. used to tell me. Look at the POSITIVE. And remember, THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

Are you seeking therapy for your anxiety? Every once and a while I'll see a psychologist if I catch myself getting anxiety, and it really just knocks it out of the park for me, and I'm in good shape for a long time. :)

Hope this helped. Feel better soon. :)

Hi, again!

I absolutely lose my appetite when my anxiety is high.  I already have a high metabolism, so the extra calorie burn of anxiety/stress, plus lower nutrition going in always leads to some weight loss for me.

Try to keep eating, even when you don't feel like it.  I'm not familiar with a lot of cuisine options in the UK.  Here in the US, when my anxiety is bad sometimes I live on ginger ale soda, toast with peanut butter & honey, and scrambled eggs.  The peanut butter & eggs are good protein sources which help give energy for longer periods of time, and the toast (carbohydrate) is a fast-acting fuel.  Here in the states we also have bottled beverages labeled as "meal replacement" drinks - popular brand names are Ensure and Boost.  The common flavors are chocolate and vanilla - they taste a bit like milkshakes.  They are good sources of vitamins, minerals, and protein.

And listen to your cravings - if something sounds good, go eat it!  I have been going through mini doughnuts covered in powdered sugar lately!  :0)

I know it's hard when you're watching the weight come off.  Are you seeking help with the anxiety?
