The physciatrists I have talked to have never heard of burning skin as a symptom..  I am suffering greatly with this symptom.  Is there any medication that will ease it?  Thank you.

Whoever is deleting my posts:  I have had the burning sensations being described by the OP and others every single day for over 10 years.  I have thought about what it is literally thousands of times and researched its possible origins hundreds of times.  It is in my interest to understand its origins.  I have thought about it in relation to anxiety and it frankly makes no sense for a symptom that is in most cases there to warn us of nerve damage to be replicated by the body without any purpose.  If anxiety is an illness that poses no real threat to us why would it mimick sensations of nerve damage?  What is the point of that?

Paxiled is right.  Medicine isn't easy, but everyone acts like if we can't solve these problems in a few half hour sessions with our doctors, even specialists, then we have exhausted all possible causes.  Testing by MRI and CT scan only can reveal possible causes of symptoms up to a set resolution.  If the damage is fine it will not be picked up on a scan.  Even when the scan costs thousands of dollars.  So if nerve cells are on the nano or micrometer scale, then it is reasonable to suppose that a lot of that won't be seen on a scan that is done with resolution in millimeters.  Remember doctors and the people who do the testing on us are just like us, except they haven't spent as much time as we have thinking about our problems, researching them and they have no first hand experience with almost all of the symptoms they treat.  I think that leaves plenty of room for error and gives us even more reason to take some of the work into our own hands.

Hmmm sometimes during an attack I've had the sensation that the skin on my thigh is on fire. Anxiety can to so many things to the body. I imagine that if people don't get anxiety under control it can start doing physical damage.

I agree that some elaboration would be helpful.

I've definitely experienced a hot flash type sensations with my anxiety and panic.  I've felt my skin get hot as well, almost how your skin would feel if feverish.  The term "burning" is a bit hard to qualify though without more info.

Anxiety causes a plethora of symptoms, and they differ in everyone.  It's not accurate to say that the burning COULDN'T possibly be caused by anxiety, it certainly could, however, like Paxiled said, it's also important to cover the medical bases.  There could be MANY physiological causes for a symptom like this.  I DO think, that in Tyger's situation, once a very thorough work-up has been done, including assessments by specialists, that it only makes sense to try to accept that anxiety is very likely the cause of a certain physical symptom.

It's definitely tough to assess anxiety induced symptoms, being that they are subjective in nature.

OP, hope you return to expand on your post a bit, so we can get a better feel for what you're experiencing, and offer some suggestions.  Have you had a medical work-up?  If so, what kinds of tests were done?

I think the poster needs to be more specific on what is meant by "burning."  Both anxiety and the medication used to treat it (especially the latter) can cause sweats and such, but I don't know what's meant by "burning."  It is true that not everything, or even most things, people complain about are caused by anxiety, and just because doctors can't find a reason doesn't mean there isn't a physiological reason, it just means they can't find one.  Medicine isn't easy.  Can the poster say more about what the sensation is?

Actually burning IS a symptom of anxiety..I have it! I have been checked out medically and am not suffering from any known medical condition or disease. I do not have diabetes, MS, thyroid disorder, or changing hormones.

My mouth burns, and my legs will periodically "heat up". The palms of my hands burn. Years back, this also happened to me..this feeling of sunburned arms, really uncomfortable. A full medical work up, MRI by a neurologist, etc revealed nothing.

These incidents have occurred when I am going thru alot of stress, personal issues or work related.

The sunburned feeling eventually faded away. These days, I am waiting for my current state of existence, with the burning, etc..to ease up. I've had a huge amount of work stress and upset over it.
