"Brain fog" am I alone??

Hi all, I'm a 20yr old female and for the last 3yrs I have had a 24/7 lightheaded feeling (like Im not in my body) . As of yet no medical professional has been able to put it right, I've tried neuromuscular therapy, acupuncture, chiropractors, craniosacral therapist, medical herbalist... Had eyes and ears checked, many blood tests and all are clear...have tried anxiety medication also and none were effective.  Anyone else also suffering from the same condition?

I stopped taking all meds well over a year ago as I'm not a believer in putting them into my body if they don't do anything for me. I have not been diagnosed with depression just got depressed at times because I was like 'pass the parcel' no one could help, but now after having this constantly for 3yrs I have learnt to accept it and 'get on with things' although would still like to someday soon get better. I eat and exercise regularly also so that's not a problem.. It's a tricky one...

Hi there,

I just finished reading your comments. Are you taking any prescription
medications of any kind ? Some prescription medications have a light
headed feeling as a side effect. You said you have had phases of depression. During those phases of depression, did your doctor prescribe
antidepressants?  Many years ago, one doctor put me on a certain kind of antidepressant. I took that antidepressant for several years. Then for whatever reason that antidepressant stopped working for me. During that
time, I experienced what can only be called light headedness. I was very
frustrated, scared, confused. I couldn't talk properly and I couldn't focus.
I couldn't remember the simplest of things. I was extremely tired.
My family was very worried about me. A family member made an appointment to see a psychiatrist.  Long story short, I ended up having
to be in the hospital while a new antidepressant was given to me and
was being monitored at the hospital. It was a very scary time in my life,
but after I was on the new antidepressant , I recovered but it took a couple
of months as this was all part of my depression. This happened many years
ago now. My depression is under control. I'm thinking very clearly, my mood is good, my sleeping has improved.
When you said you have a light headed feeling / like you're not in your
body, it reminded me of how I felt so many years ago. I'm still taking an
antidepressant every day as my depression seems to be hereditary.
You mentioned you took 20 milligrams of citalopram , also known as Celexa. I'm looking up side effects of Citalopram /Celexa in a medical
resource book I have called " The Canadian Guide to Drugs and Supplements".
Possible Adverse Effects of Citalopram
Common
Nausea/Vomiting/Indigestion
Diarrhea/Constipation

Rare
Anxiety/ Insomnia
Headache/Tremor
Dizziness/Drowsiness
Dry mouth/ Sweating
Skin rash

" Citalopram is a member of the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI ) group of antidepressant drugs. It is used for depressive illness
and panic disorder. Citalopram gradually improves the patient's mood,
increases physical activity, and restores interest in everyday pursuits."
I'm not a doctor but I suspect that you're still suffering from depression
perhaps. Just because the Citalopram didn't work, doesn't mean that
other antidepressants might not help. Wellbutrin is another antidepressant which I've been told by my doctor has the least amount of side effects.
That's the one I currently take, 150 mil. of Wellbutrin once a day. I've also tried Serzone which was the one had been taking for a number of years and that stopped working for me and where I had the light headedness and out of body feelings.
I've also looked up the drug Moclobemid which I see is another antidepressant. You say you took 150 milligrams of this drug but didn't find
it helpful.
Possible Adverse Effects
Common
Nausea
Insomnia
Dizziness
Mild headache
Dry mouth

Depression doesn't go away unfortunately. I had to try a number of
antidepressants before I found one that works for me. I have had
Serzone, Zoloft, Effexor, none of which helped me. Zoloft was horrible
for me. I was only that for 2 days and then I went back to my doctor
and asked her to take me off it. Your doctor may need to try a few
different kinds of antidepressants on you. Don't give up.
Remember to eat properly too, all 3 meals. Don't skip meals this can
cause light headness too. If you're anemic, take iron etc.
Every antidepressant comes with side effects unfortunately, but some
are worse than others. I would also suggest that you get yourself a
good medical resource where it talks about the various prescription
medications and their possible adverse effects. A good one is the one
I have been quoting from " The Canadian Guide to Drugs and Supplements"  published by Reader's Digest and the Canadian Pharmacist's Association. copyrighted 2008  ISBN : 978-0-88850-951-2.
I hope something I've mentioned may be helpful for you. I wish you well.

I was taking citalopram 20g then tried moclobemide 150g neither did anything . Yes they have tested for everything and medically everything is fine, I have had phases of depression but more so because at times I've been so frustrated that I have this issue and no resolution. I have seen a physio therapist who taught me breathing exercises etc to help me relax, and have also seen counsellors, it feels as though nobody understands my situation though. It's literally 24/7 light headed feeling and I get tired very easily.

The problem might be depression. It can give you that foggy light headed feeling. Can you say what med you took for your anxiety?
Also, did you have blood work for any vitamin deficiencies? I know you said you had blood test done but did they specifically check for this? What about thyroid testing?
I'm sorry to be asking so many questions but the more we know the better we can help you.
