Dr decided to drug test

Hello

I had a low/no risk encounter which caused me great anxiety for stds.  I was quite unreasonable and went I the dr to get tested.  I was prescribed ativan for panic attacks.  I just got a bill and it says I was tested at this visit for narcotics. Does anyone know why the dr would test for narcotics without asking?  It was negative as expected but it still makes me upset that this was done and I have to pay for it when I didn't ask.

Yes, those are all possibilities but what I don't understand is why it wasn't mentioned to you? Maybe they don't have to tell you but you would think they would...???

Not yet my other thought is maybe the lab screwed up or my dr was concerned about prescribing me ativan.  Maybe my unreasonable anxiety made her think I was on something??  I'll call this week.

I don't know the answer to that but I am curious as well. I will like to hear what others say about this. Maybe it's just something your Dr. Does? Random drug tests on all patients?? Did you call his office to inquire about it? If so, what did they say?
