Constant chest fluttering

I had an anxiety attack a few years ago and i dont think that i was ever properly medicated for it..i was on a beta blocker for awhile but stopped taking it and then some of the anxiety symptoms came back,,

my chest has been fluttering a lot lately..when i lay down it seems to be worst..also i think i may have overactive nerves in my leg..which causes my leg seems to be stiff all the time..its been like this for over a year..

could this be a part of my anxiety? will a beta blocker help these symptoms?

I don't know, in detail, what the symptoms are. But as for me, I just couldn't stop moving my leg. Especially when I was trying to relax and sleep at night.

low iron can cause the leg thing. I thought I had restless syndrome and my doc tested my iron levels. Turns out my iron was low and once I corrected it, I don't have any leg restlessness.

I take xanax. It has helped enormously. I don't like anti-depressants because bipolar runs in the family. I also can't take most meds because of side effects. Seems I am allergic to everything... Anyway, I agree with MYoungAtHeart, you probably do need a therapist. You will not know where this anxiety is coming from until you talk to someone and figure it out. Its coming from somewhere..

I am in the process of trying to find someone to talk to because I cannot deal with this awful feeling anymore. I have been through many life changing experiences in the past few years (I quit smoking, was in a car accident, I've also had 3 surgeries, cortisol injections in my back, moved, went through a lawsuit, and started a business) and I think its all catching up with me.

My doctor feels that I have PTSD from the accident, and while my body managed under severe stress, it is now time to let go and my body has to release the stress somehow. I have heart palpitations and rapid heartbeat, and since I quit smoking, I don't know how to deal with stress... Cigarettes were my best friend, and now I don't have that I feel alone and out of control...   Personally, I think talking to someone is the best way to let it all go. I don't believe that drugs alone will "fix" everything, but I know that xanax has helped.

One of the best things you can do, also, when trying to get rid of anxiety is to rid your body of carbs. Carbs create rushes of cortisol, which in turn can cause anxiety and also effect dopamine levels. So, I know people hate hearing this, but a balanced diet really helps the body when under extreme stress.

I hope this has helped.

Usually when a person has their first recorded anxiety attack with heart palps and shows up at a doctors office or emergency room, the doctor will try a beta blocker to regulate the heart beat. I wore a heart monitor for 2 weeks and then when my doctor decided there was nothing wrong with my heart, I was removed from the monitor and the beta blocker he had put me on.  This beta blocker or medicine you are given for your symptoms does not treat the anxiety.

Anxiety presents itself in body symptoms, and many many other symptoms.  To treat the anxiety that is always running in the background you will need either a qualified therapist, or doctor to treat you with the proper medication designed for anxiety.

Good luck to you
