Do they up the mg after prolonged use

I was diagnosed 9 months ago, that i've been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, and you can throw in agoraphobia.  I use to have to drink alcohol to calm myself, but that started to be a problem for me.  My Doctor put me on Adivan 1mg along with an anti depressent which i weened myself off of.  I came to realize this has been a problem as far back as I can remember.  Last night I thought I might be having a nervous breakdown, which to me felt like anxiety all through the night, not letting me sleep, and all day today.  I'm going to make an appointment with my Dr. to see if he thinks he should up the mg, or possibly change to some stronger type of medicine, if there is one out there.  Any help or tips about dealing with this awful affliction I would surely appreciate.

It did work at first, but now it seems to have no effect on me, to where I'm having to take two at a time. I hate going to my Dr. because I don't want him to think I'm just seeking out pills.  I'm a recovering alcoholic and have that guilt complex, like is it in my head, am I just wanting another fix.  At first, I could only take half, then worked up to one, without that fuzzy feeling.  Now I'm at two.  I honestly thought I was crazy.  Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate your input ;)

The ativan is not working because this drug is only intended for occasional use.  A better benzo would be Klonopin or Valium.  Both have a long half life, KLonopin longer than Valium which makes tolerance a non-issue.  Ativan and Xanax will cause rebound anxiety when taken every day as well as tolerance.

I know how you feel, I've had anxiety my entire life.

Take care

Thank you for your input.  They had me on Paxil and Adivan at the same time.  I didn't like the Paxil because it made it hard to get aroused during sex.  And my sex drive went to nill.  I was hoping this anxiety thing would go away over time, but I guess it's something we must deal with.  The adivan worked at first, but now I have to double my dose to get the same result.  Thanks for your prayers....I'll send some your way as well!

What anti-depressent where you on and why did you stop?  I think I have always been a nervous person also.  This summer I was started on Effexor.  I was on it for 7 months and did not have the results that I thought I should have had.  Now we are weaning off....terrible....and I am going to try Paxil again, which seemed to work before.  I also take Xanix in between and to sleep.  It is terrible to be this way.  There are all kinds of meds out there and we just have to have faith that our doctors know which is best for us.  Hang in there.  You are young...I am 60 but I still don't want to be this way.  I'll pray for both of us tonight....just listen!!!!!  Nana
