First you should consult with your own doctor who will probably either set up a wean down schedule of lesser doses or switch you to a longer acting benzo which seems to make the wean down process more tolerable. Also, your doctor may add an antidepressant to use along with xanax as a bridge to wean off the xanax.
What Rich has written is excellent advice. There is nothing I could add except to VERY strongly urge you to follow his advice about weaning ONLY under the care and supervision of your doctor.
Xanax is one, if not, THE, most difficult benzos to withdraw from and you should never attempt it on your own. Please consult your doctor before you begin to taper.
We all wish you the best and hope you'll let us know how you're doing. You will give hope to many people.
Peace
