Can Xanax make you hallucinate?

My dad has started taking Xanax, and he insists that he's seeing visions of Mary because he's started praying the rosary (we're Catholic). I really hope that's he's not crazy and that this is just the meds, because he's never had visions before. Its really freaking my whole family out and I really need help.

I had problems on Xanax many yrs ago before I switched over to Valium - I got a lot of answers when I googled Professor Heather Ashtons Manual about Benzodiazepines & what they do in the body and how to Withdrawl from them

In April I will begin tapering off Valium using her method with help from my Dr

Wishing your Dad all the best

Hello and welcome!

Hallucinations can occur, but they're not a common side effect.  How old is your Dad?  Elderly people would be more at risk for hallucinations and other more severe side effects.  Does he take any other medications?  Does he drink?

His doctor absolutely needs to be made aware ASAP.
