GAD

I am having my second bout with GAD after having relief for 18 years with no medication.  I have been taking klonopin on and off for the last year.  When I use klonopin it makes me feel like a new person.  My concentration is improved I laugh my anxiety is gone and I have a general feeling of well being.  I have been taking it everyday for the last two months at .25 mg a day in the morning.  I know it does not sound like much but it works for me.

I have recently wanted to stop the medication and it is proving to be a problem.  I cut back to .125 mg and my symptoms of anxiety and depersonalization are coming back.  It has been about four days.

I have two questions:

Do I tough it out and see what happens is it just withdrawal symptoms or are these my underlying syptoms of GAD?

Should I just stay on the medication because I can function with it and it makes me feel better and for how long?

Thanks

The psychiatrist says if it helps take it, the GP who is prescribing the klonopin is pretty much leaving it up to me.  I had only gone to the phychiatrist for a one time evaluation.  I personally would like to be off the medication because at some point I am going to have to face getting off the drug so I figured now is as good a time as any.  I really do not want to take it the rest of my life.
