Globus / Breathing

Hello all,

I hope I can find some answers here.

I have globus sensation and issues with my breathing for over a year; these symptoms represent as feelings of having a lump in the throat, discomfort in throat, tension in chest and throat, inability to breathe smoothly and rhythmically, air hunger, head rushses, soreness in jaws etc.

My GP tells me he feels it's anxiety. I'm at my wit's end with the symptoms as they are ever-present and the suffocating, breathing problems are destroying my quality of life.

I have read Claire Weeke's books, tried the Panic-Away programme, Buteyko etc all to no avail.
I do not take medication.

Can anyone offer advice? Has anyone conquered this?

So grateful for any help/advice.

FL

Severe side effects should be discussed with your doctor.  It may be you need to start on a smaller dose or it may be something else.
Hope all works out well.

Thank you guys. I was prescribed trifluoperazine but was concerned at the severity of the side effects. Has anyone tried this?

I've gone through a period of time where I felt like there was a lump in my throat all the time as well as high anxiety times when I felt like my throat was closing and I couldn't breathe. I know how terrible it feels! I definately suggest medication. I tried an anxiety reducing program and it didn't work at all! My body was out of control and needed to be calmed down with meds.. Later on down the road, I was able to apply some principles of the program that helped. Some people have a physical problem that cannot be denied. I hope you will do whatever it takes to get well. Why suffer needlessly? Studchick

Did your GP suggest anything?   Meds, counseling, tests, etc.??
All your symptoms are those of anxiety, but they are symptoms of many other things as well.
That is why you have to exhaust all avenues... but get treatment for anxiety in the meantime.
Your doctor is familiar with the signs so it can't hurt getting help with it.
So many people here have gone thru this and experienced the exact same symptoms as you are and have found some relief.  Take a look also at the things going on in your life, stressful events, that may be contributing as well.
Call you doc and see what you can start doing to get some real relief.  There is no need living with these symptoms and have them diminish your quality of life.
Let us know how you make out..
