Help please

I was prescribed lorazepam yesterday for my anxiety. I hate taking medicines which only seems to make my anxiety worse. I am already on 10 mg of citalopram a day for my depression and take it every night. So when I had an attack earlier today took half of the lorazepam (.25) instead of the full dose being the weirdo that I am. That was four and a half hours ago. Knowing my doctor knows I am on both of these medications I forced myself to take my citalopram now before bed. Now I am laying here panicing that the combination taken almost 5 hours apart will stop my heart if I fall asleep.

Dear one,
I, too, am a fraidy cat when I comes to Meds and trusting my Dr.
The 10mgs of ur antidepressant is not very strong and I take the same as you...
And the Lorazapam also is a low dose..
Unlike you, I am hopping my doc will RX the Lorazapam for me with the anti depresents..
I would only take it low dose when needed and may every day for the start up.
I took this years ago after I lost my first son and it saved my life..
Unless you take a large dose or take more than the doc says..
I think, like myself , you will have a present surprise, if you do not let your mind and fear lie to you..
This med makes you feel calm and warm inside..at least fir me if it is not abused.  That's all I ask,,,to feel calm and normal once in a while as I tend to be on the verge of panic attacks as a way of dealing with life.
Good luck & , as my Dr says to me when I need it,,
Rainie,,,,don't you know u can trust me to do what's best,,at least try,til we find what works ???

Citalopram takes 8 weeks to build up in your system so isn't fast acting like you seem to think since you took one earlier than usual.

10 mg is the starter dose which you take for a week until your body gets accustomed to it, so you need to move up the dosage but that is between you and your doctor. The prescription bottle must tell you the amount you were prescribed to take daily though so I wowld check that first. My guess is that you are not getting any benefit from the celexa yet.

By the way I didn't add that be cautious in your use of benzos such lorazepam.  Don't take them regularly if you can help it.

It won't.  They don't target the same neurotransmitters --  citalopram targets serotonin while benzos target GABA.  On the other hand, the antidepressant should be helping with the anxiety as well, but you'd probably need a higher dose -- 10mg is very low for this medication, for most people below therapeutic levels.
