Lexapro 20mg

I have been on lexapro for a while and have cmae to a conclusion, that it is not working. I still feel no relief from this pill and have gave it long enough to test the medication out. So I am just wondering what other medication can I be put on with very few side effects that has helped many of you in terms of reliefing their anxiety for more than just a few hours. I forgot to mention that I am taking xanax where I only get a few hours where I feel good but then I crash once the pill has gone through its cycle. almost feels as if you are on a caffine high then you loose it. Please Help. Thanks Tom

I agree you need to talk to your doctor, but are you at the top dose for lexapro. I know sometimes it takes a few months to alter the medications like 20mg is just to start out, then if you feel nothing the doc would push it up to 40 then 60 and so on till you have tried it full force. When i was on lexapro they had to get it up to 60mgs before it worked. But when it kicked in i felt so much better. Also though everyone is different, different medications work and some don't. I know a lot of people that are on paxil and they hardly ever have to take there nerve pills. Talk to your doctor.....goodluck

Hi Tom,

If you have given the Lexapro a good 5 to 6 weeks, then I would speak to your Doctor about changing.  There are several different medications you can take but all have about the same side effects listed.  Since everyone is different you may react to one specific med better than another.  I know this isn't probably what you want to hear but it is trial and error.  As for the Xanax, this benzo is a short term pill that only last about 4 to 6 hours.  Once it wears off your anxiety creeps back up on you.  On the other hand Kolonopin is a longer acting benzo that stays in the system up to 12 hours.  It is usually taken taken twice a day.  It doesn't hit you like the Xanax.  It slowing progresses into the system so to speak.  I am taking this at night only for now and have had relief.  You may want to ask your doctor about it.  It may also help you during your transition in finding another SSRI.  Keep your chin up and speak with your doctor as soon as you can..

Good Luck,
Laura
