I agree with abby, I dont think you should be using a bnenzo to cover up the withdraws of a opiates.
Generally, Benzodiazapine addiction is described as being worse the Heroin withdraws, because with Opioid addiction, the main "detox" last for about 2 -4 weeks with heavy magnitude then subsides.
Benzodiazapine recovery can take years.
If you feel you need them for a longer period, or your taking that much, then Abby is right on the switchover just so it would be better for you for "long term" use.
Valium "Diazapam" has a extremely long half life "up to 300 hours" after accumulation has occured.
And is considered one of the "best" Benzos to be on when it comes to effectiveness and withdraws.
Ativan has a true half life of only a percentage compared to the Valium, and will lead to EXTREME tollerance issues.
So, if you feel like you need something in you for a longer period of time, then switch to valium, its a much better choice.
I think benzodiazapines are a great medicine for those who need them, but for the short half life ones, those should be off the market.
Valium acts fast, and last, Klonopin acts slower but still last.
As for people who get short bouts of panic attacks I dont believe they should be on a benzo.
Ive got those all my life and fought them "nicely" but for panic disorders they work great:)
try not to be on them for to long, but dont beat yourself up about it.
Take care
Yes, horrible to be exact. Extremely bad physically but also mentally. Feelings of going mad are common if you come off too fast. You must tapper off, you cannot just stop, or you could have a seizure. Ativan is a strong, short acting benzo. Benzo's are the worst drugs, once they get hold of you it takes a LONG time to recover. 1mg a day is not to bad, stop taking more, switch to valium and tapper off. See web site> benzo.org.uk. (Ashton Manual).
